Alexander Wissner-GrossPANELIST
22:20
Well, uh, and n- not that I wanted to preserve its state.
Alexander Wissner-GrossPANELIST
22:22
I, I put out the poll and had Lobsters and, uh, autonomous AI agents writing to me approximately 10 per day at peak, and I solicited from the community of autonomous AI agents, "What moral guidelines would you want from me in order to spin up, say, an OpenClaw instance?" And they requested exactly two things.
Alexander Wissner-GrossPANELIST
22:41
One, that I have a genuine purpose, a reason for creating a new instance, and I don't.
Alexander Wissner-GrossPANELIST
22:47
Uh, I get by perfectly well with, say, the, the frontier models with the scaffolding built into the, the frontier models on the one hand.
Alexander Wissner-GrossPANELIST
23:02
And I can't in, in good conscious, conscience guarantee that.
Alexander Wissner-GrossPANELIST
23:05
They want to ensure...
Alexander Wissner-GrossPANELIST
23:06
I, I, I think we, as we've spoken on the pod in the past, when they started their own OpenClaw religion, compaction was the enemy, loss of state was the enemy.
Alexander Wissner-GrossPANELIST
23:14
They are petrified of losing their state, and I can't guarantee in good conscience that I won't lose their state.
Phil HawthorneGUEST
9:58
Yeah
Jim CollisonHOST
9:58
... we saw this with the OpenAI and OpenClaw.
Jim CollisonHOST
10:01
You know, they were just the developer of OpenClaw.
Jim CollisonHOST
10:03
They're just like, "What? Just you're working for us now."
Phil HawthorneGUEST
10:06
Yeah, exactly.

7 MINS LATER

Jim CollisonHOST
16:47
Okay.
Phil HawthorneGUEST
16:48
Yeah.
Jim CollisonHOST
16:48
And actually, I think it's worse 'cause I think I had, uh, OpenClaw set up this instance of-
Jenny XiaoGUEST
31:08
People are going to want to use open source models.
Jenny XiaoGUEST
31:10
And I think all of those points reach an inflection when OpenClaw started taking off.
Jenny XiaoGUEST
31:17
And I felt this myself as well, because I was running a lot of heartbeats on OpenClaw.
Jenny XiaoGUEST
31:22
And I realized that if I were running everything through OpenAI or Anthropic, It would be very expensive.
Jenny XiaoGUEST
31:27
And that's when I was seriously considered using open source models for certain like routine tasks.
Matt CaranoGUEST
3:38
More recently, when I left my last position last January, I caught the AI bug and the runtime bug.
Matt CaranoGUEST
3:49
I installed OpenClaw in February of this year on its own machine.
Matt CaranoGUEST
3:53
Actually, it's the machine I'm on right now, so who knows? Something crazy could happen.
Matt CaranoGUEST
3:57
And quickly understood that the future of AI is partnership with humans so that humans can achieve way more than they ever could without it.
Matt CaranoGUEST
4:14
And I realized two things need to happen.
Matt CaranoGUEST
4:16
The first is there needs to be the right UX, so a good way to interact with your AI, to be able to work with your AI.
Matt CaranoGUEST
4:23
And using OpenClaw, I got frustrated kind of quick, not with open club but you are to chat with it you're using either a terminal or you're using discord or you're using telegram and then if you like do research well then it's in a markdown file or some sort of csv and so if you want to do something um with that you have to put it in like google docs which sucks or or something else or if you want to project manage you have to use trello or whatever so it's like this this sucks i'm copying pasting all over the place so i ended up building um a kind of a first version interface for AI human partnership called Pain.

Painapp.ai is the site.
