How did you develop your own sense of fashion?

[laughs] But honestly, I like jeans and T-shirts and sneakers.

You know, I get dressed up when I have to, but my style is very low-key.

[static] On One Day at a Time, your character, Penelope Alvarez, is never just one role.

How does playing a multifaceted character disrupt stereotypes?

This series follows three generations of a Cuban-American family living under one roof.

The podcast is a production of Timbuktu Labs and based on the book series Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls.

And I said, oh, you know, like Paramount, you know, Fox, you know, I said, what was happening at the studios? And they said, well, they took us onto an empty soundstage to show us what an empty soundstage looked like.

And, you know, back in the day, Over at Sony, when we were doing One Day at a Time, when we were doing the Goldbergs, when we were doing Californication and Silicon Valley, there were no empty sound stages anywhere.

And it was amazing.

And things have changed.

But the freedom that you get is much more than freedom you get if you're doing television.

If you do television...

You don't have that freedom unless you're doing television in front of a live audience like we did with One Day at a Time.

And then the audience gets the deal.
