SUNDAY SUPPLEMENT | Tom White on Sunderland v Arsenal
C
9:49Chris WinnHOST
Um, but one of the, the talking points was not necessarily the starting 11, but the fact that he ended up with four defenders on the bench.
C
9:57Chris WinnHOST
He had Hume, O'Nien, Alderete, and Metalli.
C
9:59Chris WinnHOST
And we'll, we'll get into the game, see potentially if it had any impact.
C
10:02Chris WinnHOST
But before the game he switched out Ahogbaja for Talbi on the bench rather than potentially one of the, the defenders.
MATCHDAY PREVIEW | Can Sunderland Cause An UPSET vs Arsenal?!
J
24:39James NicholsGUEST
We build from the back through the middle of the pitch with a bounce pass through Xhaka out wide.
J
24:44James NicholsGUEST
You get that pass wrong and you do exactly what happened against Ipswich in the 95th, 90- 90 something minute when Alderete gave the ball away exactly trying that pass.
J
24:54James NicholsGUEST
Bounce pass to Xhaka to play out to a fullback, and then that creates the opportunities.
J
24:58James NicholsGUEST
Our lopsided formation creates risk because when your winger moves inside and your fullback bombs on to become effectively the winger, there's a big gap there that they could take advantage of.

Mm-hmm
G
52:30GavHOST
... you know? Yeah, um, he's definitely gonna start for me, but I just think he offers us...
G
52:34GavHOST
When you, when you weigh him up against the other defenders who are probably gonna miss this one out, which will be O'Nien and Alderete, I think he's, he's naturally got the edge, hasn't he, over them because of that little bit of extra threat that he gives us.
J
52:46Johnny HorleyPANELIST
Yeah.
The main Sunderland talking points from our interview with Florent Ghisolfi
D
14:24Dom ShawHOST
For Natale to play, for Unai to play, because he might not get a chance.
D
14:27Dom ShawHOST
Alderete, now you've potentially got Danzo, Ballard and Mukieli ahead of him in the pecking order there.
D
14:33Dom ShawHOST
So, Isadora start, although you suspect he'll start one of the three games next week.

REACTION! | Talbi Magic As Sunderland Beat Hull City In League Cup
M
36:51Martin WonlessHOST
I did choose to put that on screen.
M
36:53Martin WonlessHOST
I could have let that one slip, but it's always nice for balance, isn't it? Well, my Alderete came back in the team today, Michael, and I thought he did fine.
M
37:04Martin WonlessHOST
I think he He got some much-needed minutes into his legs.
M
37:08Martin WonlessHOST
He obviously saw him lip-switching.
MATCH PREVIEW | Is The League Cup A Priority For Sunderland?
C
50:26Chris WinnHOST
Mm
M
50:26Martin WonlessHOST
... with Omar Alderete, 'cause he needs minutes.
M
50:31Martin WonlessHOST
He hasn't...
M
50:32Martin WonlessHOST
Well, I was gonna say he hasn't kicked a football.
M
51:07Martin WonlessHOST
So that will be a, a really strong back four.
M
51:08Martin WonlessHOST
Like, that could be a back four that you'd line up in the, in the Premier League at some point.
M
51:13Martin WonlessHOST
So yeah, Trey Hume right back, Luke O'Nien, Omar Alderete, and Diane Metali is the defense that I have forecast that Regis Lembras might go with.
C
51:24Chris WinnHOST
You talk about that being strong.
It's The Eye Of The Tiger | Planet FPL S. 10 Ep. 8 | GW3 Review | Fantasy Premier League
J
53:30JamesHOST
That's obviously going to be competition to Ray Nildo.
J
53:32JamesHOST
And you're going to want Alderete back in there possibly somewhere as well.
J
53:35JamesHOST
Now, who does that impact? Well, it might be Ballard.
J
53:40JamesHOST
Maybe.
MONDAY SHOW | A Point That Should be Three
G
20:00Gareth BarkerHOST
and see.
G
20:05Gareth BarkerHOST
So yeah, there's a few Alderete will probably come in.
G
20:09Gareth BarkerHOST
It's weird how he's kind of disappeared.
G
20:11Gareth BarkerHOST
Do you think it's injuries on the back of...
Sunderland prove a major point at Brentford as Régis Le Bris prepares Hull City changes
J
26:07James CopleyHOST
And I know this isn't a first-team side, but there's a couple of players, well, actually there's six or seven players in there that are going to want to prove themselves and push towards that Premier League squad.
J
26:17James CopleyHOST
I mean, looking down our 11s there, There's Trehume, Omar Alderete, Luke O'Neill, Mataali, Chris Rigg, Ohoka, Fofana and Isidore who would think or like to think that they will have an impact on Sunderland's Premier League season.
J
26:34James CopleyHOST
I mean, you could even throw Tarby in there as well.
J
26:36James CopleyHOST
So I think in terms of the game, I'm looking forward to it a lot more than I have Carabao Cup games previously.
Q&A | ISIDOR OR BROBBEY? Sunderland’s BIG Selection Dilemma!

Ornain.
A
17:05Ant WatersonPANELIST
There's your four.
G
20:29GavHOST
Maybe you do start bleeding in some of the stronger players.
G
20:32GavHOST
But at this stage of the season, without a schedule, you know.
A
20:36Ant WatersonPANELIST
Well, if you're looking at the likes of, obviously, Alderete as well, who probably knows must be out of joint that he's barely played this season, who was out, like, you know, one of the first teams on the team to hit last year.
A
20:46Ant WatersonPANELIST
But then you look at Metali, who you'd think long term is going to be our first choice left back, you know, with everything, what we've been told about him and all that stuff.
MATCH PREVIEW | Will Sunderland BEAT Brentford?
G
53:13GavHOST
And I know you said you wouldn't change much, but for me, I would be looking at the back four.
G
53:18GavHOST
If Danzo's not ready, you know, Alderete perhaps.
G
53:22GavHOST
But I think Danzo's been signed to start at the weekend, if I'm honest.
J
53:29James NicholsGUEST
I really like Omar Alderete.
J
53:31James NicholsGUEST
are kind of one of his biggest defenders I know he gives the ball away too often but when he's good he's brilliant and I just think the amount of minutes he's played this season the last thing you want to come up against is Mikkel Damsgaard and Kevin Sharder pressing down and running down at you don't get us wrong I think Brentford can be hurt like you play through the first play through their pressure that's how you hurt them and it's not going to be easy to watch because we're going to be playing risky balls we're going to be How many times against Fulham did Roofs take that touch and get away with it? It did really well.
J
54:07James NicholsGUEST
Roofs was excellent on the ball.
G
56:08GavHOST
So, other than that left centre-half position, I think the defence basically picks itself and I wouldn't be shocked if it was a back four of Ranildo, Danzo, McAuley and Munya.
N
56:18Neil GrainyGUEST
Yeah, and I think one of you has made a good point, sorry I forgot to, but I think Ballard was most uncomfortable with the ball at his feet last week in terms of he's not left-footed and I think that's something that Labrie craves at the back, two left-footers, two right-footers.
