Olympia Brass Band

Here is the birthplace of jazz and Dixieland.

[upbeat music] Well, that's the famous Olympia Brass Band of New Orleans, just a sample of some of the music you're going to be hearing here today.

Yes, New Orleans does mean music year-round, but on New Year's Day, New Orleans also means football and the Sugar Bowl.

Ever since 1935, this football classic has been staged, and today, the 1972 version, it'll be the Sooners of Oklahoma, dressed in white today, taking on Auburn.

Um, [clears throat] one of the early ones is by the Young Tuxedo...

Well, the Tuxedo Brass Band and now the Young Tuxedo Brass Band, the Olympia Brass Band.

All of these groups have jazz funeral albums.

George Lewis, the great clarinetist, is heard o- on many of the mid-century recordings.
