[laughs] No, it was not cool at all.

I ended up with a '78 Cutlass Supreme-

That's not bad

... which I found very cool-

... and I still to this day kind of wish I had that car.

The Cutlass was a cool car-

Um, and then South Coast Rep finally started in a little storefront on Newport Boulevard.

I used to drive my Oldsmobile Cutlass down to Newport Boulevard to, to see that theater.

But it was, uh, it was pretty podunk, really.

Uh, it wasn't ethnically diverse, probably ninety percent, you know, white Anglo, maybe ten percent Latino, mostly Mexican American, not a pan, uh, Hispanic representation at all.

And what happened to them happened to them whether they were looking for it or not.

The car was a 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass, or similar.

The exact make and model vary slightly across different accounts, but the details that matter are consistent.

It was an American sedan of that era.

What are you buying, like, a Batmobile? What do you mean a special car? What kind of special-

No, no, I got a, an Olds, uh, uh, what they got, a '93 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible.

I don't know if you remember the one with the, uh, with the roll bar across it?

I would drive to another state just not to get an Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible.

Why, why would you want to drive around? [laughs] That's like a, a car from Happy Days.

Uh, well, it was a '93.

Now that's a car.

Now I went over there and it was a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass and the paint was chipping on it and the roof was all ratted out but it only had 38,000 miles on it.

I'm going 500 bucks, 38,000 miles, I can put up with this.

So I bought this car for $500.

I didn't really have a consistent vehicle.

So initially I get my, like, grandmother's '87 Oldsmobile Cutlass.

We put a spoiler on it.

That's great.

It's an old, like, 95 Buick Cutlass.

Just old, like, red.
