Oldenburg

In 1889, he was transferred to the War Ministry, working under War Minister General Verdi, his former divisional commander.

After writing the regulations concerning field engineering and the use of heavy artillery, In 1893, he was promoted to the position of Colonel and took command of the 91st Infantry Regiment stationed in Oldenburg in northwestern Germany.

Three years later, he became Chief of Staff of the 8th Army Corps at Korblentz on the Rhineland in western Germany, working closely alongside his commanding officer, the Kaiser's uncle, Grand Duke Frederick I of Baden.

In 1897 Hindenburg was promoted to Major General, and upon promotion to Lieutenant General in 1900, he took command of the 26th Infantry Division at Karlsruhe in southwestern Germany for five years.
