ChristianHOST

Now, if you recall, we discussed it last week.
ChristianHOST
3:45
Old Mutual built its own bank and Discovery has been at it since 2019.
ChristianHOST
3:49
Sunlum has now skipped that part entirely.
ChristianHOST
3:52
So GoTime is a majority owned bank by Patrice Moisepe's African Rainbow Capital, which is also a shareholder in Sunlum.
Piet ViljoenGUEST
3:51
Uh, she ...
Piet ViljoenGUEST
3:52
I don't know if she's here, but she runs the Old Mutual Gold Fund.
Piet ViljoenGUEST
3:55
So fascinating to talk to her about that, because I think gold is a, is a, is a very interesting asset, uh, that plays a very, um, strong diversifying role in any sensible portfolio.
Piet ViljoenGUEST
4:07
Uh, so that was, that was quite nice.

Piet ViljoenGUEST
27:19
That's right, yeah, yeah, because I, I think size is the enemy of returns.
Piet ViljoenGUEST
27:22
You cannot access these small and mid-caps, as, uh, David points out to us.
Piet ViljoenGUEST
27:27
You can't, if you're managing billions and billions of money like Coronation and Ninety One and Old Mutual and, uh, Otto 1890.
David ShapiroGUEST
27:33
Yeah.
Irakli RekhviashviliHOST
11:56
We have Discovery Bank.
Irakli RekhviashviliHOST
11:58
We have other players as well looking, uh, Old Mutual as well.
Irakli RekhviashviliHOST
12:02
Now, how, in your view, is the... what is the moat at the heart of, um, GoTime bank in building its defense and growing its base? And you spoke around daily habits and engagement with consumers.
Coenraad JonkerGUEST
12:15
consumers.Iratxe, that's a fantastic question.
Tiwa AdebayoHOST
2:45
And joining me for a special episode are two experts in the Kenyan investment market.

2:51

Welcome back.
Tiwa AdebayoHOST
10:42
Today on the podcast, we're looking at why Kenya is becoming more attractive for investors.
Tiwa AdebayoHOST
10:48
Joel Correa from Old Mutual is still with me alongside Winnie Coet from Stanbic Bank Kenya.
Tiwa AdebayoHOST
10:55
I want to talk to you both a bit now about the sectors that are the most interesting.
Bongani BingwaHOST

17 after 8, let's move on to something else entirely.
Bongani BingwaHOST

In conversation with Old Mutual Corporate, unpacking the thinking behind this year's Old Mutual Thought Leaders Forum.
Bongani BingwaHOST
0:18
Thought Leaders Forum, of course, asks what leaders are choosing to do differently to create balance.
Bongani BingwaHOST
0:23
better retirement outcomes.
Bongani BingwaHOST
0:26
As I've said a number of times at the age of 52, these things are front of mind for me.
Bongani BingwaHOST
0:31
And I thought no better time than this to unpack why this year's forum is moving beyond talk.
Bongani BingwaHOST
0:37
Blessing Utete, we've spoken to Blessing before, the commercial head, the commercial executive head at Old Mutual Corporate.
Bongani BingwaHOST
0:44
Always a pleasure to have you on the show.
Dan CorderHOST
2:54
You do get a little beanie next to your comments on YouTube if you do that.
Dan CorderHOST
2:58
If you'd like to advertise on the show, like Old Mutual is doing this week and next week, you can email us at contact@threebeaniesnetwork.com. And if you'd like to buy Three Beanies Network merchandise, I know that people are already thinking about...
Dan CorderHOST
3:13
I wonder if anyone has heard Mariah Carey playing in a supermarket yet.
Dan CorderHOST
3:16
Even for South African supermarkets, it might be too early in mid-September.
Bruce WhitfieldHOST
22:25
We've spoken about first round.
Bruce WhitfieldHOST
22:27
But there are a host of others, particularly, I think Sunlum was in there, Old Mutual in there, Discovery in there too.
Chantal MarxGUEST
22:33
Yeah, and insurance.
Chantal MarxGUEST
22:34
I think the standout probably for me, but all of those companies released really solid numbers.
Chantal MarxGUEST
23:31
But for a company like Discovery, for example, they've really expanded the product set and they've focused very heavily on the ecosystem.
Chantal MarxGUEST
23:40
And they've also expanded their addressable market to outside of South Africa.
Chantal MarxGUEST
23:44
And if you look at a company like Old Mutual, for example, they're insuring people who weren't insured before.
Chantal MarxGUEST
23:50
They're also expanding their product set And I think that even in the banking space, we've actually rolled out banking products and insurance products to areas of the market that were previously underserved.
John MaythamHOST

Joined in studio, made his way through the traffic, and I bless him for that.
John MaythamHOST

Blessing Utete, the commercial executive head for Old Mutual Corporate.
John MaythamHOST
0:08
I don't think we need a full-on history blessing.
John MaythamHOST
0:10
Welcome, but what is the Thought Leaders Forum?

Blessing UteteGUEST

around how people actually then can be put in the system to save for better outcomes.

Blessing Utete, the Commercial Executive Head for Old Mutual Corporate.
DaveHOST
47:03
We will be there with...
DaveHOST
47:06
Old Mutual and WAPA who runs the event.
DaveHOST
47:11
We're going there to tell the story of the communities.
DaveHOST
47:15
That was what I asked was, please can we come through off the back of the interview that we did with the folk of Winston going around there just to see the impact races do have on communities.
DaveHOST
51:35
I get goosies and a frog in the throat.
DaveHOST
51:39
It's heavy.
DaveHOST
51:42
What I'm hoping we can put together, we have no commercial link to Old Mutual or WAPA for that matter anyone that's involved in that race and what I would like to put together at the end is a short video that they can play it's like a board meeting or an expo gathering of old mutuals you know execs if not the execs then the brand managers and like you think you're making a difference you've got no idea and then cut to what i believe we're going to see because my i know these guys mean well like i've met enough um corporates in my life to know like a lot of it is tick box and every now and again you meet enough of them where it's like they really believe in making a difference this isn't a tick box exercise people are there I know how in it they are across other activations of theirs as well other sponsorship deals that they hold they're on their box they're with their teams racing they're in this thing they're with that community and I think even still i don't think at scale people understand like the difference you're making is humongous yeah like if there's one sponsorship that you'd never want to pull based on impact it's this one and that's my own personal i'd like to put that together and see where that lands i mean we'll publicize that video if we can if we can get it right I'm extremely moved to the fact that we can be there to even tell it, let alone write it.
DaveHOST
53:28
If I wasn't writing it, that would be fine.
DaveHOST
0:29
you'll see what you've seen here amplified by an insane measure.
DaveHOST
0:36
And Old Mutual opened their arms and welcomed us and said, we'll bring the whole crew.
DaveHOST
0:41
So, here we are.
