Old East Dallas

I was a little bit aware of him.

And we grew up in the same place in East Dallas.

And...

Yeah, like our mom's houses were, you know, a mile from each other or family homes.

We go there and we do this and sometimes it's fantastic and sometimes it's absolutely boring.

But one of the things, if you have to leave home, you have to leave your kids, your wife, you have to go do these adventures and these jobs is it's so nice when you can share the process with people.

And so what I selfishly really loved about it was like, I, you know, I got to go back to Dallas where I'm from and East Dallas and, and, We didn't shoot in East Dallas, but I just invited every single person I knew there that I still am in touch with, like, come over and see the set.

And no one really understood it, right? It was very, like, the indicative of the exact same thing of, like, I'm going to produce a TV series in Bangladesh and Iceland.

Joshan, which we've talked about.

Oloyo, which is the contemporary Mexican restaurant in East Dallas that Imelda has told us about and that I have had a good meal at.

And Mabo, a Japanese restaurant in Preston Center that some had on their Michelin starred list.

It's a fine, tiny little restaurant.

It was left completely off the list.

I also

love Meridian in East Dallas.

The day when it was announced that I would have this new job with the Dallas Morning News, the place I chose to have dinner with my family was at Meridian.

Two scallops in this appetizer for $30.

This restaurant is in a rundown strip mall next door to a Domino's Pizza in Old East Dallas.

We're not talking about Highland Park Village.

So the chef and the restaurant owners decided to respond and out themselves with an online clap back and a little snark, and then they later deleted it.

So for people to immediately know who she's talking about, you know, that, that says something.

That in itself says something.

Well, I think the small restaurant setting next to a Domino's in Old East Dallas in a strip mall was enough.

Like I said, the group chat lit up.

And it reminded me of our times in Texas.

In fact, in East Dallas, we lived down the street from the Dallas Arboretum where dogs weren't allowed.

But it

gave us a chance to be near native plants and things that you could find in that region, which is exactly what the botanical gardens are.
