Old Crow

I'll tell you one that, that really stands out is, I was going up to a northern community in Old Crow, Yukon.

Um, and then they asked us, "Hey, you know what? That went well.

We've got a full community presentation.

Like, the whole community's gonna be g- get together again in, like, two weeks, so can you come back?" Sadly, that didn't work for a lot of my colleagues, but I s- I, "Yeah, I'll make it work." So I hopped on a plane, got up to Old Crow, um, sat in front of the community, and spent a lot of time talking to them about the benefits of NWC and why they should have a, a s- s- keep continuous as a store, et cetera.

So after the presentation, in communities like this, we have one staff house, and we have our store, and then, I mean, there's no hotels, there's no motels.

The petition was filed on August 31st by Aaron Linklater, a non-practicing lawyer who was an executive director for the First Nation from 2024 to 2025.

The Vontad Gwich'in are a self-governing First Nation of about 300 people in the small fly-in community of Old Crow in northern Yukon.

The court filing claims that amendments to its governance act in the passing of an election law in July did not follow proper procedure as required by the act and its constitution.

It also asserts that the First Nation's decision to call an election that same month without holding a general assembly ahead of the election or consulting with its elders council violates its constitution.
