Offertory

So for example, the words, Father, forgive them, they don't know what they're doing, is the Confidior, where we ask for mercy.

The words, this day you'll be with me in paradise, is the Offertory.

Of course, with the Blessed Mother, woman, behold your son, behold your mother.

That's the holy, holy, holy of the sanctus.

These masses featured organ settings of the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei, along with an elaborate and extended offertory.

Let's listen to several movements from the Mass for the Convents.

We will hear the Offertory, two verses of the Sanctus, two verses of the Agnus Dei, and the final Deo Gratias, or Thanks Be to God.

As we just mentioned, the offertory is an extended showpiece for the organist, while the other movements or verses are relatively brief, some less than one minute.

This setting of the offertory is played by Russell Jackson on the 2021 Reuter Organ of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, San Antonio.

Organists Russell Jackson and Aude Wertmatt played several movements beginning with the Grand Offertory from François Couperin's Mass for the Convents, one of two masses composed when Couperin was 22 years old.
