Offal was our favourite thing.
Maggie BeerGUEST
2:17
So when I consider the times that I grew up, I'm 81 now, so it was pretty boring in the shops but not in our household.
Sarah MacdonaldHOST
2:29

Sam DelaneyHOST

Sam DelaneyHOST
38:02
I'm
Andy DawsonHOST
38:02
not a vegetarian.
Andy DawsonHOST
38:03
I haven't got anything like
Sam DelaneyHOST
38:05
that.
Sam DelaneyHOST
38:06
There's no big life moments associated with Offal for you, is there? Not at all.
Sam DelaneyHOST
38:11
Apart from you served Offal at your wedding.
Ken BerryHOST
37:37
Yeah, great question here.
Ken BerryHOST
37:38
Dee says, "Is cod liver sufficient as organ meat?" So cod liver comes from the, the cod fish, and it is the liver of that cod fish, and it is absolutely a super food.
Ken BerryHOST
37:49
I, I love cod liver.
Ken BerryHOST
37:51
It's one of the first livers that I actually enjoyed eating.
Jose GalisonHOST
30:33
I was like, cause I guess they congeal it and there's like cooked, there's uncooked congealed pork and they sell it in like blocks.
Jose GalisonHOST
30:38
Uh, so you can get it uncooked and you can also get it cooked and I was like And my like my wife was like you you better not because you like you'll know that like i'll get organs meat and shit like i'm the kind of guy that eats all sorts of stuff like Um, like i'll eat like I like to buy like occasionally if I go like some what they call offals O-f-f-a-l is like organ meat and stuff.
Jose GalisonHOST
30:55
I just think it's probably good for you and like whatever fry it up eat it Whatever.
Jose GalisonHOST
30:58
It's just protein.
Josh AxeGUEST
20:29
And so, but I would say vegetables are sort of that second category of super foods we want to be getting in our food for longevity.
Josh AxeGUEST
20:36
And third is gonna be meat, but let's highlight organ meats.
Josh AxeGUEST
20:39
You know, organ meats are what I would consider nature's greatest methylation supplements and B vitamin supplements, you know? Uh, a lot of people today have concerns over this MTHFR gene variant or the one of the two or both variants.
speaker_2UNKNOWN
20:54
Mm-hmm.
Josh AxeGUEST
20:54
And just because you have the gene variant or have both, that doesn't mean you can't methylate.
Josh AxeGUEST
22:40
Same thing with vitamin D, you need magnesium, you need K2, and you need fatty acids.
speaker_2UNKNOWN
22:43
Mm-hmm.
Josh AxeGUEST
22:43
So, so my point with that is everything is absorbed better in its food form with all the other nutrients that are in there, and that's what I really like about liver and I really like about organ meats.
Sally FallonGUEST
2:43
Price Foundation is provide the, we have 11 principles of healthy traditional diets.
Sally FallonGUEST
2:49
And the main principle is that they were very rich in minerals and what we call the fat soluble vitamins, which we get from organ meats, animal fats, and certain seafoods, foods that people don't eat much anymore.
Sally FallonGUEST
3:03
And these are vitamins A, D, and K. K was called the price factor.
Sally FallonGUEST
3:09
And we need these vitamins to absorb the minerals.

Sally FallonGUEST
29:34
And they should be.
Sally FallonGUEST
29:35
And there's actually a precedent for this in traditional cultures.
Sally FallonGUEST
29:40
They pounded up meats and organ meats and let them dry in the sun.
Sally FallonGUEST
29:45
They dried oysters, they did, yeah.
Ben EdwardsGUEST
33:04
So we call it deep nutrition and we have five superfood groups is what we call it because there's so much nutrition in each one of these groups.
Ben EdwardsGUEST
33:12
One of those and probably number one is organ meats for sure.
Ben EdwardsGUEST
33:16
And then we love ferments.
Ben EdwardsGUEST
33:17
We love raw dairy.
Ben EdwardsGUEST
33:28
And of course, organic grain.
Ben EdwardsGUEST
33:29
But there's so much nutrition.
Ben EdwardsGUEST
33:31
Those are powerhouses of nutrition, as people well know with the organ meats.
Ben EdwardsGUEST
33:35
But that's what we need.
Zachary RinaldoHOST
8:32
76 to 80, the character experiences an overpowering urge to eat something strange, such as dirt, slime, or offal.
Zachary RinaldoHOST
8:39
What is that? Define offal.
Zachary RinaldoHOST
8:43
Offal refers to the internal organs or entrails of a butchered animal.
Zachary RinaldoHOST
8:46
I've never heard of that term in my entire life.
Zachary RinaldoHOST
8:49
Oh, my God.
Brian JohnsonSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
6:32
this is grilled up with some garlic
Gil CarvalhoHOST
6:34
right, so he's the liver king is because he eats a lot of liver, is that it? so organ meats like liver are very nutrient rich things like certain vitamins like vitamin A for example, iron, very concentrated so it can be helpful for example, someone is deficient in one of those nutrients, there are studies with children who are deficient in certain vitamins and you give them organ meats and you see improvement very rapidly or somebody can't get enough of those nutrients in their diet for some reason yeah these foods are an option, they're not necessary in a diet, you can have a healthy diet without organ meats that covers all your needs but you can also have a diet put together with some organ meats eaten in moderation you want to watch out for excess though, when you start eating neem diets with massive amounts of this you can get into problems because those same vitamins, you can get too much of them.
Gil CarvalhoHOST
7:24
hypervitaminosis is actually a thing with vitamin A for example.
Gil CarvalhoHOST
7:29
now it's not a common thing with most people, it's not something that most people need to worry about but when you get into these fad meme diets that's when these problems start to pop up.
Gil CarvalhoHOST
11:20
that's personal
Brian JohnsonSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
11:21
we got about two to three ounces of some raw liver
Gil CarvalhoHOST
11:25
again two to three ounces of liver if this is beef liver two ounces would be 2800 micrograms so almost three milligrams that's almost the upper limit for the whole day just in that little cup plus that other bowl he said there's some liver in there as well as some pancreas and whatnot he's probably easily over the safe upper limit for the whole day just with this meal plus that liver supplement he says he takes breakfast lunch and dinner right now do i believe that he actually eats like this i'd be surprised it's probably all show if i had to guess but the point is the target audience that's going to watch this the impressionable 16 year old boys they're going to watch this and think oh this is what you eat to be jacked they're gonna go eat the same thing and if they eat this consistently daily they're probably gonna run into issues also did he say it's raw liver? about two to three ounces of some raw liver yep do not eat raw organs whatever you do you're basically risking food poisoning for no benefit there's no upshot they find contamination in raw offal or organ meats offal is another word for organ meats pretty commonly some of the common ones they find are salmonella and e coli one study found salmonella in most samples of raw organ meats that they examined another found e coli in 60% of beef liver samples and more than 90% chicken liver samples.
Gil CarvalhoHOST
12:50
maybe you'll get lucky but you don't want to play that Russian roulette.
MariaAUDIENCE

... thing.
MariaAUDIENCE
27:25
And organ meat.
MariaAUDIENCE
27:27
My question to you, uh, is should I do anything different for my rehab i- in, in macros-wise or, or, or... 'Cause I know my insulin's gonna go up, right? 'Cause your body's traumatized.
MariaAUDIENCE
27:42
Whether it stays up is irrelevant, correct? I, I, I think I'm metabolically a- healthy.

7 MINS LATER

MariaAUDIENCE
34:37
That's right.
MariaAUDIENCE
34:38
So my, my, but my question, though, to you is, do you think I have to, like, a- do anything...
MariaAUDIENCE
34:44
Like, when I, after the surgery I craved, uh, for example, um, organ meat, like, like crazy.
MariaAUDIENCE
34:52
And, like, I guess, yeah.
