Ocho Rios

I mean, you know, it's no secret about Hurricane Melissa and what, how devastating it was to Jamaica, um, nearly a year ago.

But for me, traveling from Kingston through the mountains to get to Ocho Rios, I'm saying, "Wow, I cannot believe that this island suffered a devastating hurricane." Now, th- that eastern end of the island did not really suffer as much damage as the western part of the island, western and southern part of the island.

But I, I mean, I'm saying, wow, this is such a beautiful country.

The, the, the mountains, and then you're coming through the mountains and you're going on the, the highway and you look at the Caribbean Sea, and you thought, this place really...

So, and I, I, to be very frank with you, I say to people, I mean, you have to first of all make a list of all the items that you want to do, the experience that you want to have.

Because once you make a decision as to what you want, then it makes life a lot easier for you.

For example, a very simple example, if you said to me, "Gary, um, I wanna do golfing," then right away I can tell you that you have to be positioned in Ocho Rios.

Because at, in Ocho Rios, there's a Sal- Sandals Golf and Country Club that is located in the Ocho Rios region of Jamaica where it's, where it's included.

You would fly into the Punta Cana Airport and And Sandals Ochi is on the beautiful island of Jamaica.

And there are two airports that you could fly into for there, Montego Bay or Ocho Rios.

Now, both of these resorts are adults only.

Sandals is technically couples only only.

Now, so getting to both of these resorts, so both fairly easy to get to.

There are numerous flights from all over the U.S. into Punta Cana, so you can connect very easily, as well as Jamaica.

So with Jamaica, you could fly into Ocho Rios Airport, and then that would put you about 30 minutes from the resort.

Or if you fly into Montego Bay, it would put you about 90, 90 minutes to an hour.

Come on.

I, uh, I told my husband that the thing that I wanted for my birthday was a sabbatical.

And so I'm here feeling-

feeling-[upbeat music] Welcome to Couples Sans Souci, Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

Jamaica has so many locations.

Whether you're in Montego Bay or Ocho Rios or the south side of the island, they all are very special and unique in their own ways.

They really are, and the distinction really speaks to the personalities, and that's why qualifying where is best suited for who is traveling is always so very important because the personalities differ, not just in the actual resorts but the sections of Jamaica.

And so the expression of what you're looking for, do you want fun? Do you want adventure? Do you want a long walk along the beach? Do you wanna see sunrise and sunset? Do you want to actually be in a more relaxed setting where it's either seven miles of beach on by Negril or two miles by the South Coast? So, you know, the diversity is there, and isn't that beautiful that we're able to offer that? There is something for everyone.

And while I was there as a child, I had no idea it was preparing me for what would become my life's work, you know.

Well, I learned that there are these big spiders on the island when I was living close to Ferngully in Ocho Rios.

I had no idea that we had these big spiders.

It was really shocking.

Where did you visit?

We were, where were we? We were in a very lovely resort in Ocho Rios, I think it's called.

And we went to like the Dunn River Falls.

Is that

Jamaica may appeal to retirees because English is the official language.

There are established expat communities in places like Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, and Negril, and the cost of living can be lower than the United States, especially outside of some of the major resort areas.

Investopedia notes that Jamaica allows dual citizenship and residency pathways are more traditional in generally involving long-term residence and proof of financial self-sufficiency rather than a major investment program.

But location matters a lot.
