Ocean Parkway

I've referenced it several times since I've sat down, but it's, like, my baseline to explain everything.

But the Long Island Serial Killer case involves several bodies that were found along Ocean Parkway, which is the South Shore of Long Island, and these discoveries occurred in 2010 and early 2011.

And for over a decade, no one knew who was responsible.

And the reason why it took so long to uncover the truth is because the police department in charge of the investigation was very corrupt.

And I started covering the case then when basically the police chief involved was involved in this scandal that really distracted from the case.

But in July of 2023, they finally arrested someone named Rex Heuermann, who just pleaded guilty to eight of the murders.

But there are still a bunch of question marks involved, 'cause that's not all of the victims on Ocean Parkway.

And some of it is recent enough that it happened in the same region within the last couple of years.

In 2010, police searching for a missing woman named Shannon Gilbert began uncovering human remains along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach, a stretch of coastline in the very same town that Amityville belongs to.

Over the following months, the remains of several more women were found near Gilgo Beach, most of them young women who had been working as prostitutes at the time that they disappeared.

The Gilgo Beach case went unsolved for over a decade until a Manhattan architect named Rex Heuermann was arrested in July of 2023 after DNA evidence connected him to the Gilgo Beach killings.
