Occupational licensing

There are so many things that your nurse can do that by law in New Zealand we say only a doctor can do.

It's highly restrictive occupational licensing.

That means that we say – again, it's a gold-plated argument I was making before – that because we – We have rules and regulations that restrict the provision of services.

And a lot of these things is just nonsense.

None of her patients complained.

Her patients were happy with the service that she provided.

My view is that because we put this layer of restrictions on onto occupational licensings.

We condense a number of people, which is why the universities can charge a premium.

And newcomers.

So I recently saw something about the idea that you should also have occupational licensing for undertakers as well.

And there seems to be this default that, oh, more licensing is good because, of course, we want high-quality undertakers.

I mean, I'm not.

Yeah.

I've also read some of those US papers.

I think there's a very, very interesting one about occupational licensing for dentists and dental hygienists, where in states where, you know, dental hygienists who are... are basically allowed to operate more freely.

Dental health among US Army recruits is significantly higher while costs are significantly lower.
