Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport

The Bay Area restaurant chain where the Mai Tai was created has a new local outpost.

Trader Vic's opened a new location inside Oakland Airport's Terminal 2, Mayor Barberley, among the dignitaries at yesterday's ribbon cutting.

The restaurant will have the same offerings as its flagship Emeryville location.

A new grab-and-go market opening at the airport as well.

And I did.

I met her at the Oakland Airport, and from Oakland Airport we went to, uh, Yosemite.

From Yosemite we went to Lake Tahoe.

From Lake Tahoe, uh, uh, we went to Mount Lassen.

Because FedEx, they're the link that ensures that military cargo gets from the Oakland airport to Israel.

In fact, They are the supply chain on how Israel gets F-35s and are able to drop bombs on Gaza, just destroying lives.

I had bad experiences on both of those.

And I didn't really have the best experience with Southwest either, but that seems to be the only thing around here that, you know, I mean, because they fly out of Oakland Airport.

And I love that convenience because it's just a BART ride and a quick little air tram, they call it, which is more of a funicular that runs horizontally.

It's fascinating.

Well, it's interesting, I see this happen again and again in his story, that there are places to where he is, his story somehow is hidden, in other words.

Like, at Oakland Airport, the airport that they took off from to fly to Hawaii, there's a huge boulevard that goes into the airport, which is named for Albert Hegenberger, who was a navigator on the flight.

Six lanes of traffic.

And then, on the far side of the airfield, which you really couldn't get to unless you were really intent on going there, a little street of less than a mile is named Maitland Street.

In this case, I knew the plot, I knew the story of his life, but I had to, through the plot, I found the character, which was a really different way of doing it.

And then, of course, fidelity to the historical record, that was also a challenge.

Like I was telling Barbara earlier, and back, when I first started to draft this, I sat down and it was a bright, sunny morning when they took off from Oakland Airport, and then I stopped, and I was like, well, wait, was it? It was in the 50s.

It was fair and cool.
