Between nineteen eighty-one and nineteen ninety-one, the Somali military is where Colonel Nur Omar Mohamed, the man known as Ilhan Omar's father, served as a senior officer.

He was part of a brutal regime, the Siad Barre regime, that was targeting the Isaaq people in the modern-day Republic of Somaliland.

This is why Somaliland hates Ilhan Omar, because they know who she and her family are, and they can trace probably thousands, tens of thousands of dead bodies directly back to that man.

There were literally two decades of large-scale bloodbaths, Red Terror-style tactics used against the civilians so that they could try to get them killed.

Ethnic cleansing is what they call this.

Now, the man known as Ilhan Omar's father, running this brutal military regime, was Colonel Nur Omar Mohamed.

His rank, his authority, his membership in the regime was from the Darod clan, and in-- over the course of ten years, he climbed the hierarchy in the Somali military, in the Barre regime, made it to the rank of colonel.

And it, it, it's not just, you know, on how old she is, but it's on some missing paperwork that I kept highlighting, and I keep making a big deal about this because I think it's important.

Her dad, Nur Omar Mohamed, um, he may have misstated her age when he applied for her to get citizenship because the thinking is she was really 18.

She was not 17.

If she was 17, she would've been a minor, and then that would've been easy-peasy.

They spent all this time looking and looking and looking.

Actually, look at this.

She requested it in June 27 of '22, and a whole year later, June 20th, 2023, they're getting back to her, and they spent a year looking for Ilhan's dad, and they can't find him under any of these names.

So it is in question how he ever became a citizen of the United States in the first place.

But today I want to stay a little bit more on Ilhan herself, right? The Wall Street Journal reported that on Wednesday, citing US officials and others familiar with the probe.

Investigators are specifically examining whether Omar or her late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, altered her age on citizenship paperwork to show she was 17 rather than 18.

That would have let her derive citizenship automatically through his 2000 naturalization.

CNN reported that a federal magistrate judge required prosecutors to adopt safeguards protecting Omar's legislative records before approving the warrant.

The questions at the center of this case aren't new.

Omar came to this country in 1995, child of a refugee camp in Kenya, brought here by her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, who has since passed away.

She became a citizen in 2000.

Investigators reportedly want to know whether her age was changed on the paperwork, listed as seventeen when she was actually eighteen.

That single year does matter.

At seventeen, she would have qualified for citizenship automatically through her father.

At eighteen, she would have to go through the process on her own.

More than a dozen subpoenas have gone out, some to members of her family, calling them before a grand jury in Minnesota.

Look at what's going on with that.

Now you've got federal agents that, who are searching her home over the immigration paperwork, and so the questions were always going to surface.

But they have searched her Washington area home under a judicial warrant as part of a criminal investigation into her late father's immigration paperwork.

Nur Omar Mohamed, he served more than two decades as an officer in Somali dictator Siad Barre's army and rose to the rank of colonel.

Mohama- Mohamed, he commanded a regimen in the 1977 to 1978 war with Ethiopia, this was after training in Russia, and may have enlisted under the name Nur Said in 1966.

Quite the opposite.

Her dad, Nur Omar Mohamed, was a colonel in Barre's army.

Yeah, the warlord.
