It seemed to make sense.

Part of my interests at the time in fine art were in printmaking and the NASCAD printmaking studio in the 70s that had a really strong reputation.

That was talked about a lot in those classes.

So that was interesting is this potential to go to Nova Scotia.

And yeah, the totem pole is really nice.

It's funny you should mention Canada because when I was a student at Ravensbourne, I did a semester in Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

It was run by The graphic design course was run by this really influential North American, he was German, but lived in Canada, professor called Hanno Essies, who taught semiotics as a design, as the design solution.

And he'd been taught as a...

But we came here.

I went to this art school in 1976 called the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

We came to New York for a week.

And that showed me that I could be here because New York at that time was really kind of like we had Skid Row.

And then he kind of outlines all the other things, all the things that would oppose that.

So he talks about Black Mountain College or Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax in Canada.

And then he talks about St. Martin's in the late 1960s and Goldsmith.

So these kind of broad based art courses or art and design courses that would ask students to specifically kind of move around and not see themselves as limited by media but this whole this is then going to be a defense of okay but what about a BA painting undergraduate course

Yeah.

I saw that you went to NASCAD in Nova Scotia and now you live in Vancouver.

Where did you grow up? Was it somewhere in between those places?

Absolutely between.

And he, he put fleece out and if it got, um, dewy in the morning, he'd do X.

And if it wasn't dewy in the morning, he'd do Y.

And so I, it was my sort of like, I'm gonna apply to NASCAD and if I get in, it's meant to be.

And if I don't get in, I'm going to keep doing what I'm doing in Toronto.

Yes, I wish I was that young again.

But other than going to school in Halifax for a couple of years, I went to the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design for my second degree, a planning degree.

But anyway, I've lived in the ward since I've moved out.

So first apartment was on Lilac.
