think a lot of our listeners would be surprised that there is a company called St. John Energy.

Ryan, obviously, most people think about Enby Power or Nova Scotia Power.

Just talk about the role that companies like you play in energy and electricity distribution, if you wouldn't mind for a second.

Well, the simplest way to describe St. John Energy is that we are a community-owned electric utility that has been serving St. John since 1922.

Screen Nova Scotia is the provincial agency responsible for supporting and promoting the screen industry across Nova Scotia, including attracting productions and production spending to the province.

Nova Scotia's government has introduced legislation to review how Nova Scotia Power is regulated, proposing a shift toward a performance-based model that would tie the utility's revenue, earnings, incentives and penalties to measurable results.

Targeted metrics include reliability standards, emissions reduction goals and customer service quality.

Under the bill, the Nova Scotia Energy Board would be directed to conduct the review, with implementation beginning 30 days after the legislation is enacted and findings made public.

The grid operator has extended its bidding deadline into January, giving companies more time to submit proposals using different technologies before a final decision is made.

The change follows opposition from Pictou County residents to the original gas plant proposal.

Nova Scotia Power currently operates three grid-scale battery facilities that store energy generated from renewable sources for later use.

The original natural gas procurement process continues in parallel with the expanded search for alternatives.

But it's now got some real-world consequences, or at least influence, because he has now resigned from his duties as energy minister, and now Tim Houston, the premier, is gonna be taking over, and that includes regulating or taking care of Nova Scotia Power, which is this hugely controversial and embattled power company that's been having problems for the last couple years with cybersecurity and a whole bunch of other things.

Anyways, according to Global News in Halifax, Nova Scotia PC MLA Marco MacLeod has resigned as energy minister following, quote, "difficult conversations," end quote.

Officials are urging people to stay safe and avoid travel.

Nova Scotia Power says the vast majority of its customers have had electricity restored.
