Nottingham catchfly

Our wild fennel may be smaller, but to me it has something of that same wild, joyous abandon about it, especially when it dances in the wind off the sea.

Another more unusual plant grows here, the Nottingham Catchfly.

It blooms not in sunshine but by the light of the moon for three nights only, giving off a strong scent irresistible to insects.

On each night it changes, just like the moon, and reveals new sets of stamens and pistils.
