CFAs are not found on your chart, and there really is no way for a pilot to know if they are flying through a CFA or not.
Nick SmithHOST
13:54
Some more interesting facts about CFAs is that they are not published in NOTAMs.
Nick SmithHOST
13:58
They have no dimensions or published range data, and there's no controlling agency to contact.
Nick SmithHOST
14:03
The one regulation they are supposed to abide by is that all activity must stop if they spot an aircraft flying overhead.
Nick SmithHOST
14:40
A TFR can provide a safe environment for disaster relief aircraft, prevent unsafe flight traffic congestion, protect space agency operations, protect the travel of public figures, or large events such as sporting events, fireworks, air shows, et cetera.
Nick SmithHOST
14:54
As the name suggests, these are temporary.
Nick SmithHOST
14:56
Pilots can find and check for TFRs in NOTAMs.
Nick SmithHOST
15:01
All right, so we have a memory aid to remember these things, and it's MCPRAWN.
Bodie GrimmHOST
24:32
I just don't think that's the case.
Bodie GrimmHOST
24:34
If I had to guess, right, because as a drone pilot, I have to follow NOTAMs, which is a notice to airmen, which is these restrictions, right? If there's a flight restriction from September to October 2nd and it's for a mile and a half, one and a half nautical mile radius around the facility, you have to assume that they don't want people flying over the facility taking pictures.
Bodie GrimmHOST
25:03
That would be my guess.
Bodie GrimmHOST
25:04
Like if there are plenty of folks out there who have made a whole channel off of, you know, flying drones over Tesla facilities and taking pictures, I would imagine that Tesla doesn't want anybody to take pictures and see what's behind, you know, quote unquote, the curtain.
Jesse HamelGUEST
36:38
If this happens over the water, it's a very different situation.
Jesse HamelGUEST
36:42
It's not uncommon for NOTAMs to get filed on this, in-flight emergencies to get filed.
Jesse HamelGUEST
36:48
Passengers in the back have no idea.
Jesse HamelGUEST
36:49
No idea.
DylanHOST
10:43
Uh-oh.
MaxHOST
10:43
"What are, what are the, the two professional pilots that didn't check the NOTAMs?-
DylanHOST
10:46
Yeah
MaxHOST
10:46
... what is this gonna say?" And we look, and it's, it has PPR required.
Micilia Albertus-VerboomGUEST
6:39
And next to that, we provide the AIM, Air Traffic Information Management, We provide that for the six islands.
Micilia Albertus-VerboomGUEST
6:52
The NOTAMs we provide for the six islands.
Micilia Albertus-VerboomGUEST
6:55
The AIP we provide for the six islands.
Micilia Albertus-VerboomGUEST
6:58
I'm sorry, I didn't say what I mean with the six islands.
Rob HowellHOST
7:16
Excellent.
Rob HowellHOST
7:16
That's very useful.
Micilia Albertus-VerboomGUEST
7:18
Yeah, so we provide the NOTAMs for all six islands, the AIP for all the six islands too.
Rob HowellHOST
7:25
Yeah.
Doug BealeGUEST
29:18
I think they had one or two launches.
Doug BealeGUEST
29:19
We had one launch during that time, and it was mostly with, uh, general aviation pilots who hadn't read their, uh, NOTAMs and, uh, launched.
Doug BealeGUEST
29:27
Uh, one guy was flying over the Crawford, Texas, Bush 43's ranch, the Texas White House, and, um, our guys intercepted him, convinced him that it was a good idea to land.
Vincent AielloHOST
29:38
I have convinced several people over Crawford Ranch that it was a good idea to land.
Doug BealeGUEST
33:11
That's just my thing.
Doug BealeGUEST
33:12
But I do fly general aviation and there's a application out there called ForeFlight.
Doug BealeGUEST
33:17
And if you're using ForeFlight or any of the other software out there, this is not an endorsement necessarily, but it's very easy to check NOTAMs.
Doug BealeGUEST
33:24
Why? Because the TFRs, the temporary flight restrictions, are graphically depicted right there on the map.
speaker_3NARRATOR
7:45
The NOTAM begins with the phrase flight restrictions, followed by the location of the temporary restriction, effective time period, area defined in statute miles, and altitudes affected.
speaker_3NARRATOR
7:57
The NOTAM also contains the FAA coordination facility and telephone number, the reason for the restriction, and any other information deemed appropriate.
speaker_3NARRATOR
8:06
The pilot should check the NOTAMs as part of flight planning.
speaker_3NARRATOR
8:10
Some of the purposes for establishing a TFR are protect persons and property in the air or on the surface from an existing or imminent hazard, provide a safe environment for the operation of disaster relief aircraft, prevent an unsafe congestion of sightseeing aircraft above an incident or event which may generate a high degree of public interest, protect declared national disasters for humanitarian reasons in the state of Hawaii, protect the president, vice president, or other public figures, provide a safe environment for space agency operations.
speaker_3NARRATOR
8:45
Since the events of September 11, 2001, the use of TFRs has become much more common.

Use of airport or facility directory, AFD.
speaker_14NARRATOR

Study available information about each airport at which a landing is intended.

This should include a study of the notices to airmen, NOTAMs, and the AFD, Figure 15-24.

Here is something to consider before you plan your next international trip into East Asia.
TowerHOST

Imagine your dispatcher pulls up the latest NOTAMs for Beijing Capital International and there is a restriction in there that rewrites the airspace geometry around one of the world's busiest aviation hubs, not a temporary flight restriction that expires in 48 hours.
TowerHOST
0:22
a sweeping set of new rules tied to an incident that happened nearly three months ago and finally codified into permanent airspace structure.
TowerHOST
0:29
That is exactly where Beijing stands right now.

That is the picture right now.
TowerHOST
11:02
Stay current, check your NOTAMs, and if Beijing is on your route structure, get with your dispatch team this week.
TowerHOST
11:08
I am Tower.
TowerHOST
14:05
The airspace will be managed appropriately in the coming days.
TowerHOST
14:08
And if you're heading north through Michigan this week, check your NOTAMs before you go.
TowerHOST
14:12
Reporting on today's incident came from Aerotime.
TowerHOST
14:15
Background on ejection seat systems, Air National Guard operations, and military airspace structure is drawn from Air Force documentation and publicly available FAA materials, RadioHanger.com, for more.
Ed HicksHOST
16:00
And obviously, your pre-flight planning is going to make use of official sources.
Ed HicksHOST
16:04
So things like the NAT charts, the AICs, the UK AIPs, NOTAMs, and the Met Office Aviation Weather Service.
Ed HicksHOST
16:14
And obviously, once you're airborne, some exercises that will be included are stall recognition and recovery and simulated partial power loss.
Ed HicksHOST
16:24
Uh, and that's in different phases of flight.
