Well, this is the contentious one probably.

"Rainbow Connection" by The Muppets, which I think the only person probably, uh, who might have also chosen this would be my darling ex-wife, [laughs] Zoe, because this is, in our family, this is just the tune that cements everything together.

If you get over the fact that it's sung by a puppet frog, it's actually a very beautiful, soulful song.

I can imagine it lifting my spirits on those days when I realize that I am on my own, and I've got no one to show off to.

This would be one of those songs that would just make me smile and laugh and remember people.

My dear old father-in-law, Rick, was, it's just his favorite song, and, um, so I would play this for Rick.

Norman Cook, your last choice, what is it?

doesn't really

matter so much because I don't really release music anymore.

If I had to, if I was putting more music out, I'd probably have to think about it a bit more.

Before I kind of, I had my head in the sand, I tried not to make videos, and then, but then I found a director, Spike Jonze, who completely turned away, turned on its head the way you make videos, which is like, they don't have to be high production values, they don't have to make you look really sexy, you don't have to even be in them.

You just have to be a funny piece of film that makes people smile.

And it can be mischievous, it can be just surreal.

It just has to serve the song, right? But it can make the song come alive.

like, OK, we'll stop there.

... and kind of went to a place, went to a place probably that we never could have gone on our own.

It was like the, the, the... our, our, our careers and our thing, the, the sum of the two parts when we became this sort of power couple.

So she was, um, and still is, you know, we're still really good friends.

And I think our triumph is to remain really good friends and parents, even though we're not a couple anymore.

And, um-

I think more than anyone else, you have so much time for people, so much love for people, and you always taught me to be there for everyone around me from a very young age.

But the bit- the bizarre thing was that I'd kind of failed my A-levels first time around 'cause I was in a band with Paul.

And then I retook 'em at evening classes to go to the...

Well, it was Polytechnic in those days, not university, in Brighton.

And, um, so I said to my- the, the band split up 'cause I moved down to Brighton, and the drummer went to RADA, and Paul, in a huff, moved up to Hull [laughs] and said, "Fuck you." And so, so when I was at university, I thought, if you, if I'm, if I get in another band, I'll probably, I'll do half the course, and then I'll get waylaid like I did before with Paul.

A track that for you really w- really, really meant something, um, and what was going through your life when it happened, and we'll all go and listen to it.

How did you get into DJing?

I had a box of cool records, and I used to get invited to the parties because I had the cool records.

And one day I said, "Look, you know, I'm coming to the party, but I don't want to bring my, my record box, because all the records get left out on the floor and cigarette butts on them and..." This, uh, girl said, "What if my dad hires these, like, double decks, and you're in charge of the records, and you're, like, the DJ?" And I thought, "That sounds like that could be fun." So she hired the decks, and something very fundamental happened was I realized that I love sharing my favorite records with people and, and showing off and making them dance to them, and they seemed to like me doing it.

So i- yeah, I just fell into it.
