Matt FortunaHOST
14:01
And, again, a lot of different guys getting involved.
Matt FortunaHOST
14:03
Nolan James, obviously – excuse me, Nolan James last week.
Matt FortunaHOST
14:07
Mike Gilbert had the long touchdown.
Matt FortunaHOST
14:09
Jordan Faison had a long touchdown.
Pete SampsonHOST
15:09
So, You know, and then like you throw the other guy, like Jonas Walton finished with eight carries for 48 yards actually was the best in most yards and, you know, obviously the highest rushing average of the day for Notre Dame.
Pete SampsonHOST
15:21
So maybe there's something there too.
Pete SampsonHOST
15:25
I don't think that's like a developing situation because they like Aeneas Williams a lot and they like Nolan James Jr. a lot.
Pete SampsonHOST
15:30
But, you know, if the question is Kedron Young or Jonas Walton, Today the answer was Jonas Walton.
Mike SingerHOST
7:27
Aeneas went nine for 29, 3.2 yards per carry.
Mike SingerHOST
7:30
Nolan James, six for 29, 4.8 yards per carry, two touchdowns.
Mike SingerHOST
7:36
Is there anything to read into here? Are you concerned? Sure.
Mike SingerHOST
7:40
What are your thoughts about these running backs?
Tim HydeHOST
8:28
It's like, dude, what are you doing? That was a drive killer.
Tim HydeHOST
8:32
But Nias' first run, I believe it's his first run, had a nice cutback.
Tim HydeHOST
8:39
Nolan James had a couple nice cutbacks.
Tim HydeHOST
8:41
When these guys cut back, they can move.
Bryan DriskellHOST
34:53
Yeah, he looked good.
Bryan DriskellHOST
34:55
I thought Nolan James looked good for the most part as well today.
Bryan DriskellHOST
35:00
I think both of those guys looked real sharp today.
Bryan DriskellHOST
35:02
I felt bad for Javion Osborne because he didn't have anywhere to run.
TrevorHOST
39:23
Defense played great.
TrevorHOST
39:24
Don is a first-rounder.
TrevorHOST
39:25
Nolan James is quick.
TrevorHOST
39:26
Some small things to clean up, but overall solid performance.
Bryan DriskellHOST
31:30
And I don't think right now the run game is designed to play to the strengths of their players, that being the offensive line and your top back.
Bryan DriskellHOST
31:38
I thought Nolan James Jr. today looked very comfortable running the football, mainly because I think he's more comfortable running the mid-zone concept.
Bryan DriskellHOST
31:48
That is not in Aeneas Williams' bread and butter.
Bryan DriskellHOST
31:51
I talked about this this summer in a show.
Bryan DriskellHOST
33:45
And you're still running the offense like you have Jeremiah Love and Jadarian Price.
Bryan DriskellHOST
33:49
That's unfair to Aeneas Williams.
Bryan DriskellHOST
33:51
That's unfair to Nolan James Jr. That's unfair to your entire backfield.
Bryan DriskellHOST
33:55
And you're an offensive line that's 316, 305, 310, 325, and 325 across the board.
Drew MentockHOST
5:50
But yeah, he got involved, and you saw a lot of...
Drew MentockHOST
5:52
Carr's anticipation with some of his throws too just getting the ball to him right as he got open and yeah I think those things are really good to see I know there's going to be some concerns about the run game I've looked at the four horseman lounge a little bit so that's already a topic of discussion but when you have a guy like C.J. Carr kind of you know dicing up the defense I think that helps a lot and Nolan James I think he his numbers may not look amazing but you got to remember he had two one yard touchdown runs so I think he was a little more efficient than even the box score suggests with him too
Tim O'MalleyHOST
6:21
Tim, I was going to interject on the running game.
Tim O'MalleyHOST
6:24
I thought Aeneas Williams looked like he played a game three days ago, not six days ago.
Tim O'MalleyHOST
7:10
But he had a different burst than the other guys had.
Tim O'MalleyHOST
7:12
We can't take too much.
Tim O'MalleyHOST
7:13
Nolan James did his job today.
Tim O'MalleyHOST
7:14
He had very few opportunities.
Tyler WojciakHOST
6:38
He could have, you know, checked those plays that were close to the goal line.
Tyler WojciakHOST
6:42
And then instead of running the ball in with Nolan James Jr., he could have decided to pass it.
Tyler WojciakHOST
6:45
But he's not going to do that.
Tyler WojciakHOST
6:46
He's an unselfish player and he's going to do what he's asked to do.
Tyler WojciakHOST
10:41
A lot of that work, all of that work for Walton.
Tyler WojciakHOST
10:43
was done in the second half.
Tyler WojciakHOST
10:45
But Aeneas Williams and Nolan James Jr. could never really get it going in this game.
Tyler WojciakHOST
10:49
Nolan James Jr. finishes with two touchdowns, which is nice, but only six carries for 29 yards.
Allison HayesPANELIST
37:07
Walton eight carries for 48 yards.
Allison HayesPANELIST
37:09
His longest was 15 Nolan James.
Allison HayesPANELIST
37:11
He of course he had the two touchdowns.
Allison HayesPANELIST
37:13
So we'll take those, but six carries for 29 yards.
TrevorHOST
9:29
I didn't have it on my bingo card that we were going to see more sophomores on offense and sophomores on defense.
TrevorHOST
9:35
I mean, we saw James Flanagan on offense, Nolan James on offense, obviously the blacks, the starter.
TrevorHOST
9:40
I mean, I saw Jerome Bettis Jr.
Bryan DriskellHOST
9:44
for a couple snaps as well.

13 MINS LATER

Bryan DriskellHOST
22:17
I think it's actually very different than those two guys.
Bryan DriskellHOST
22:21
Agreed.
Bryan DriskellHOST
22:22
I think Jonas Walton is more similar to Aeneas and Nolan James than Kedron
TrevorHOST
22:29
Young is.
Jack SoblePANELIST
9:38
Notre Dame recruited him.
Jack SoblePANELIST
9:40
So their game plan, like Eric said, was bet that you can stop the run with a six-man box, play shell coverages, and again, like Eric said, hope cj car gets impatient he didn't and i i know a lot of fans would have liked to see cj car be like drake may in the thursday in the opener forcing it downfield when it wasn't there but they were so thrilled with his performance especially in the second half taking what the defense gave him checking it down do you know what you've talked all offseason about how good the receiving backs are at the ace williams and nolan james jr especially james just dump it down to them, let them make plays, hit the dig to Jordan Faison.
Jack SoblePANELIST
10:15
What Gino Guidulli told me was that that was really the only option for a deep shot, the dig to Faison and a little bit to Micah Gilbert because they were playing cover three, cover four.
Jack SoblePANELIST
10:25
The corners were playing so far back that that was the window that was open, not over the top.
Jim IrizarryHOST
14:22
Karnak.
Jim IrizarryHOST
14:23
Exactly.
Jim IrizarryHOST
14:25
I thought, you know, with the limited views that we really saw of him, Nolan James out of the backfield I thought was –
Tim GrauHOST
14:32
It was a flash.
WillAUDIENCE
69:22
yeah so i think him and bubacar will be make the d line better than they were
Mark RogersHOST
69:29
I like this change-up back that they have, Nolan James.
WillAUDIENCE
69:33
Mm-hmm.
WillAUDIENCE
69:34
Yeah, I mean, the running back recruiting has been great, so I wasn't too— I mean, I didn't think they would be quite as good as Love and Price, but I thought Nolan James is more of like a B. John type, and he's Williams, and then Keidron Young, you can use that short yardage, big fullback type guy.
Mark RogersHOST
69:58
Okay, well, anything
WillAUDIENCE
69:59
else? I was excited that Kenny Minchie played well, but that defense just wasn't good enough, I think, in their cupcake.
