Noise pollution

So in no particular order, source number one of sensory burnout is auditory overstimulation.

In other words, noise pollution.

most of us encounter some degree of noise pollution, like traffic sounds or other human-caused sounds, in our day-to-day lives.

And noise pollution, like traffic, airports, the ambient sounds of a freeway, construction sites, has long been considered a health hazard.

There is a lot of research that links noise pollution to health conditions like disrupted sleep, hypertension, heart disease, stress, and more.

In 1981, the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, reported that half of the US population lived in areas with traffic noise from road, rail, or air that was significant enough to cause health problems.

More recently, research in the European Union identified that traffic noise is the second leading cause of environmental health risk after air pollution.

And to stag onto this, a newer but very much related risk of noise pollution is the noise that is coming out of AI data centers that are being constructed.

Yeah, so we, the, on the morning of its release, myself, Jonathan, and Carlotta went into town and, uh, uh, pick, picked it up, uh, at the, uh, at a record store called Sound Pollution.

And then I, uh, uh, remember stopping off and getting some, picking up some, uh, beverages for the evening's festivities-

Yes, very clever.

That makes me want to head in a little bit of a different direction and talk about how, because that's making me think of noise pollution in their environment and how that affects their intercommunication and their connection with each other.

Yes.

That's actually a really timely question in terms of noise in the environment.

And that is their migration route.

They go up and down that.

So I just think that's something to really take pause and think about the different types of noise pollution that are happening and not just in the ocean, but out in our backyards, in our street.
