Noclip

Today's guest has been on the show once before, some four years ago now, and just like last time, we've ended up recording a really great conversation here, I think, about a type of work that we both spend an awful lot of time thinking about, which is to say documentaries about the video games industry that are independently owned, published on YouTube, and funded primarily through crowdfunding over on Patreon.

I am, of course, talking about Noclip's Danny O'Dwyer, and I've invited him back onto the show today because, well, by the time this episode airs, he will be celebrating 10 years of having left his previous job over at GameSpot to strike out on his own, and he's using this anniversary to announce what will be, I imagine, the most significant change to Noclip in its history.

You'll hear him explain that in much more detail in just a moment.

But to summarize it in just a few words, Danny says that he's done visiting game studios to tell the stories he wants to tell on Noclip.

There are a few caveats to that statement, but that's the gist of it.

Now, for many people, Noclip is synonymous with exactly that kind of format, turning up at some of the world's biggest and/or brightest game studios, filming a bunch of interviews, and in doing so, charting the history of a particular game's development.

This marks a pretty big departure for Danny and his team, which makes it just the most perfect thing to dig into for The Games Press.
