While the WSL has not publicly identified the athlete, multiple media outlets have named Cleland.

So since the news broke, Cleland's former girlfriend, German professional surfer Noah Klapp, has publicly accused him of repeated physical, sexual and psychological abuse during their relationship, which began when she was just 17.

Klapp has spoken about the lasting impact of her alleged experiences and has called on the surfing community to stop protecting and idolizing athletes accused of abuse.

The International Surfing Association has also issued a provisional suspension pending further investigation.

So one of the biggest names, if not the biggest name in surf management, surf talent management.

Well, after those stories came out, a pro surfer, kind of pro-amateur female surfer from Germany named Noah Klapp took to Instagram to share her story of being in a one-year relationship with the accused, Al Cleland Jr. Um, sorry, let me turn that off And her story, she stated that she was abused throughout most of the relationship, the one-year relationship with Al Cleland, and she stated that she kept the abuse private s- uh, out of shame initially, but then upon breakup, she basically told Al that, um, you know, if he were to...

She said, "I'm gonna keep this private for you and out of respect of our relationship, but if I ever hear about you treating somebody else this way, I will then have an obligation to go public with this information." So upon this news being released, the accusations against Al, she took to her Instagram to out her version of the story.

I thought she did a phenomenal job communicating, um, not only the abuse that she experienced, but also male, other, uh, adults' complicity in it, her, you know, uncertainty on how to communicate it, her...

Last I checked, there was 3,700 comments in her comments section in a sign of support.

So then based on that, Julia Muniz, who is Jack Robinson's wife, also took to Instagram.

I think she re-shared Noah Klapp's post and then kind of provided her own commentary in addition to it, and she actually identified two other, the two other males that were previously unidentified, and they are surf, professional surf photographers, Ryan Craig, also known as Chachi, from Santa Cruz, and Dominic Moschiera.

They are both in their 40s.

I feel like this story has been the first one that has kind of broken through into international press, and I see national news, certainly in Australia, covering it and vilifying, you know, the perpetrators of it.

And so I think there's a good-- I'm glad that this story is finally coming out, because as you look at Noah Klapp's Instagram and the various people chiming in, seems to be a pervasive problem.

Yeah.

Look, it is, and it has been for a long, long, long, long time.

But again, yeah.
