Paul Bettany is like... archangel michael and he's come to earth and this woman is pregnant and she's going to have a baby in a roadside diner it had the worst acting the worst writing terrible digital effects it was a piece of shit but k and i had been watching the tv show legion which is a joel holly or uh it's not joel holly whatever holly Noah Hawley, the guy that did the Fargo and alien earth and stuff.

So he did this series called legions based on a Marvel comic book series.

We were really digging it.

Who's making Alien Earth?

Noah Hawley.

Have him do one, perhaps.

Perhaps have him do an alien

You get a couple stinkers or shows that don't live up to the promise, and all of a sudden, your Emmys campaign is like...

I'm sure FX thought that Alien Earth from Noah Hawley would be an Emmys show.

It just wasn't.

And it did fine on the service.

And he did Legion, which is another favorite show of mine.

Legion is.

I actually would probably say that Alien Earth was able to be made without studio interference.

Noah Hawley... has a good enough pedigree, they're like, go do your thing.

And he did it, whether we like it or not, it's a different thing, but it was able to move through easily.

And probably even the creation of Romulus to some degree also moved through the system pretty easily.

I think it could be a really, really cool thing.

And maybe the future of great alien storytelling is really in television.

I don't even mean Noah Hawley.

But, I mean, like, why does it always have to be a film and why does it always have to wrestle with the legacy of Ridley Scott? Like, why not get more, like, interesting long-form storytelling that has room to breathe, isn't beholden to, like, giant, you know, budgets for very short, you know, comparative run times? I mean, because, sure.

When a mysterious space vessel crash lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet's greatest threat.

The upcoming second series certainly expands on the promise of the first, according to series creator Noah Hawley.

He teases, it's a bigger show, more world building.

Sidney Chandler, Timothy Oliphant, Alex Lothar, Samuel Blenkin, Babu Cisse, Adrian Edmondson, David Reisdahl, Essie Davis, literally there's a bunch of people.

I really liked the show.

Is this Noah Hawley? Is that the showmaker? I know you and I were talking about this in the car, I think, in Ohio, so not to recreate that conversation, but it's just so unbelievably beautifully shot and so arty, and it really does have a pretty good plot, but it all takes place kind of...

not all of it, but so much of it takes place in either liminal spaces or people's mind, like literally in your mind and various realities.

You have to really pay attention to it.
