So opening that aperture of what is going to happen, we talked about this very early on, this idea that we've lost a sense of the future.

Nils Gilman, the historian, calls this the official future, that we always have a narrative that we kind of hold onto that pulls us through the current moment.

We have lost that, I will argue, in America and in the West.

He was originally the editor of the Whole Earth Catalog under Stewart Brand and went on to become the founder of Wired Magazine in 1993.
