Nikon Z 9

Yep.

And I wonder if there's been maybe, 'cause there's gotta be, at some point, there's gotta be a Z 9 II and then Z 8 II coming 'cause they've been out for how long? When's the N- when did the Z 9 get released? When did the Nikon Z 9 get released? December 24, 2021.

Uh, this past Saturday was a day of roller derby for my household, and after skimming through the photos quickly, I pulled three out to share.

so I for 18 years I've shot Nikon and I've loved them to bits but my Nikons are getting a bit long in the tooth this one it was one of the launch cameras when the Z9 came out and it's all getting a bit long in the tooth And I've been waiting patiently for Nikon to bring out the new generation of camera, and they seem to be going down the video route, which is lovely, but not me.

So I started researching alternatives and came up with the, for those of you who like this sort of thing, the Sony A1 Mark II, which is this.

Yes, so the solid, the Z9 can track, but this is in, it's almost like it's a different sport.

So, of course, where I went, oh, was when Henry picked up the ball in the depths of the 22 and was running back, and he ran through a group of players.

The motion doesn't react fast enough.

In fact, Nikon with their Z9 has introduced a motion sensor that's native inside the camera.

They announced it with some guys doing some BMX bike work.

And again, the motion's just too quick for the rockets, for the camera to react.

I always keep spares, but the Z6 IIs and the Z8s, those are the smaller, the Nikon EN-EL15Cs.

Those have gotten better, but I'll typically need to swap those out.

The Z9s and the big D6 and DSLRs, the EN-EL18 batteries, those will run all day without.

I might get late in the day to swap a battery, but the battery capacity on the pro-level big DSLRs is really, really good.

So let's say $30-ish camera.

So it's clearly not competing with a Z9.

It's probably competing with the Kodak Chandra and those lads.

Yeah.

He just gave it to me because I bought the bag.

But I think he drank the Kool-Aid or whatever and dismissed that system unfairly because...

As a mirrorless system compared to like the Z9 or Z8 or whatever today.

Yeah, of course, it's no match.

As in...

The Z9 Mark II, I might have to eat my hat after saying this, but I don't think the Z9 Mark II is going to be leaps and bounds better than the Z9.

The Canon R5 Mark II for me was a noticeable upgrade from the R5.

Has it allowed me to do anything I couldn't have done with the R5? Really, really over a long time horizon? No.

This was shot with a Z9 from Nikon, a 35mm 1.8 Z at f8, 1 200th of a second ISO 640.

I, I generally shoot the, um, the Nikon Z9, Z8, um, my favorite, my 300 2.8 I've had for years, um, 600 F4, and then kind of 24 to 70, 70-200, all of that.

So e- every lens from probably about 10.5 mil to about 600 plus the teleconverter is what I use.

But these days I think I've switched more from, I started doing a lot of, like, long lens stuff, and now I would say my long lenses are kind of, like, 20% of the work rather than what they were when I started.

So I'm not saying you shouldn't map shit out for when you're shooting birds and you want different types of focusing modes.

I will tell you the Nikon, I got a Nikon guy who was like, "Well, because of Nikon's 3D autofocus in the Z9, I use that on the back button, and on the front I use its dynamic area AF," or whatever the hell they call it.

And I'm like, "Yeah, that's a Nikon problem." You shouldn't have to split your, your autofocus at all on, on any other system

Yeah, so I do still go from like subject detection to the old school like locked f- focus box points.
