Nikki Grimes

Made me think of Eliza Sunshine in that it's related to family heritage and family history or generational, you know, history passed down.

It's called Stronger Than by Nikki Grimes and Stacey Wells, and it's illustrated by E.B. Lewis.

It says renowned author Nikki Grimes and debut picture book writer Stacey Wells, who is Choctaw.

lend their resonant voices to award-winning artist E.B. Lewis's, who is Lenny Lenape, rich watercolors in the story of a Black Choctaw boy who finds strength in the example and history of his ancestors.

And then a novel, which was a National Book Award finalist and just came out this June, is called Buffalo Dreamer by Violet Duncan.

I'm sure you can like turn to the person next to you and say, how do you do this? Right.

It was in the beginning, especially I'm so grateful that there were folks who I either reached out to very shyly like, hi, dear Nikki Grimes.

I love your books.

Dear Jacqueline Woodson, I got to meet some women in the field who were doing this work and doing it quite well, who I respected.
