Toyota looks like they're waving the white flag and giving up and saying, "All right, we'll do it China's way." Toyota are planning on EREVs, not their famous hybrid system, but going extended range electric vehicle according to a Nikkei Asia report reproduced by CNEV Post.

The report said initial output would begin in April at several hundred vehicles a month, with production targets around two hundred thousand vehicles by the end of next year and four hundred thousand by twenty twenty-eight.

Toyota had not confirmed those plans, at least publicly, by the time we recorded today.
