14:42
Yeah
14:43
... that's what I spent my time in the book talking about are the alternatives.
14:46
There are so many tactics and things that you can do to work around the culture because I personally can't solve it all.
14:55
I can't solve all for our culture, but what I can do is try to infiltrate into the minds of executives and board members that there is another way of being into these meetings.
15:07
There's another way of prioritizing health metrics that will yield the better result, and so I spent a lot of time talking about what are the ways, different ways that you can approach n- whether it's networking, sleep, travel is a huge one, right? How can we think differently about time and how we spend time and, and where we put our focus and energy? And so a lot of it is in there because I feel like we sometimes we need examples of like, "Oh, okay, that's a thing I didn't know existed.
15:39
Let me try that on." And so it's, it's a way that I've sort of approached it by taking little different bites of the pie, um, and I call them, like, for example, exercise snacks, right? Or, uh, you know, ways that people can approach, um, you know, like I said, travel.
15:54
So I think there's also this pervasive, which will not surprise you, pervasive vibe that everything we have to do, it's all or nothing, that we have to boil the ocean.

24:32
Probably a good idea
4:14
Yeah
4:14
... or, you know, a colleague to get something off the printer for us.
4:17
[laughs] There's the sale.
4:19
But I have a whole chapter in the book on how do we incorporate real tactics into our day that ground us.
4:29
For example, a lot of folks don't get enough movement throughout their day.
4:34
For the opportunity would be how do we, whether it's setting our, an alarm on our phone every hour, hour and 15 minutes, or between calls, we just do two minutes of deep breathing.
4:47
Or whether we say, "Okay, I'm on...

14 MINS LATER

19:06
... started this shift in your thinking?
7:27
Totally
7:28
... thing.
7:28
It can be something really small, but super impactful.
7:32
And I think when...
7:34
And that's also, I think, a lot of how we look at projects, right? Like, yes, we work on the large, complex, you know, um, integrated projects, but we also work on the small projects that might be super complex or might solve something or transform something.
7:53
I think, you know, in how we look at innovation, we obviously look at it outwardly and partnering and, you know, testing and mock-ups and all that type of stuff.
8:04
But I think, too, internally, we do look at that in each year, and, and I think I mentioned this to you, too.

16 MINS LATER

24:18
Yeah
0:00
I've been where they are.
0:02
I've been 60 pounds overweight, incredibly unhealthy, where I made excuses, I didn't keep my word with myself, I couldn't make it to the gym but half the time that I even tried, I didn't know how to exercise good discipline on my diet.
0:17
I never thought that I would be where I'm at, and I'm 55.
0:22
I started this journey at 35, and if I can do it at 55, anyone can do it.
0:29
And it's really, it's, it, it, it took, it took time, and it took me, again, not boiling the ocean, learning to not beat myself up, but to take those baby steps and control the controllables, right? There's a lot of things that happen we can't control, but picking the one or two things ongoing that I could control and building up my confidence.
0:51
I, I, I speak to this person now and say, "If I can do it, anyone can do it." And the book has wonderful examples of how to do that, and it's, it's not as hard as we make it out to be.

44:16
Your podcast, everything you're putting in the world helps, but can you just talk to them directly if I move out of the way, and can you kind of wrap us up with that?
44:23
[laughs] Absolutely.
38:44
What is your strategy and plan when people are doing especially international travel or if they're going across time zones?
38:51
Yes, absolutely.
38:52
So the first thing I'm going to say, and forgive me because this is a privileged comment to make, but always fly business class or better.
39:00
Why? And I say this in the book because you will get there actually as 80%.
39:06
version of yourself as opposed to a 30% version of yourself.
39:10
The ability to lie flat and actually get some rest so you show up on the time zone or in the time zone you're going to is critically important.
39:18
Also grounding as soon as you can.

5 MINS LATER

44:28
But I'd love to hear your perspective on where the corporations are going.
27:33
Like how do you – like as you're sitting talking to me, as you work with people, as people are listening, how do you help them navigate through that?
27:44
It's a good question.
27:45
And so I think that, A, there's a reconciliation of like, am I in the right place? Most people don't have a choice to say, oh, I'm going to quit my job tomorrow and I'm going to go over here in this more conducive environment.
28:00
So assuming you kind of got to stay where you are, which most people do or feel that they do.
28:06
Um, I would coach them to say, you know, sleep and all the things outside of work you can control.
28:13
We have some agency over what we do when we go to bed at night, you know, turning, turning the light, you know, how many people at night you walk into their house at nine 30 at night, all the lights are on, you know? That's a controllable, right? Dimming your lights at night to get yourself circadian rhythms in alignment, to get yourself ready to bed, to turn off your phone.
28:35
We can all do that.

12 MINS LATER

40:14
What's the biggest thing that, you know, tracking that you recognized affected your sleep?
