past couple years you haven't really had that I mean do you have confidence in the secondary to get those interceptions I mean obviously you know with the big guys you know punching out the ball and getting those forced fumbles is important and you know QB pressures like that can happen as well but I guess you know this feels like a game where it could potentially come down to turnovers do you think that Kansas and their secondary is primed for that

Are you surprised that Isaiah Marshall won the job? Is that the decision that you were expecting? What kind of quarterback is he?

You know, I actually was surprised.

I think a lot of people were surprised, right? I mean, literally two days before the announcement, Cole Ballard was named a team captain.

It certainly seemed like, based off the opportunities that we had as media to go out to fall camp and see the team practice, that Cole Ballard looked like maybe the more reliable thrower of the football or reliable quarterback at times.

He's obviously the more experienced.

He's been in the program for a long time as well.

And so it seemed like maybe he was the guy where I think if you were to boil down the quarterback competition, it just came down to, okay, you've got a guy in Cole Ballard who probably gives you a higher floor overall But you look at a guy like Isaiah Marshall, and it's impossible to ignore the intangibles that he has.

Just as a playmaker, he's explosive.

He's one of the fastest guys on the team.

Yes or no question, do you think KU makes a bowl game this year?

You know, we don't have to worry about Jalen Todd.

Well, first of all, I can't relate to that because I don't have any kids.

I feel like maybe you can.

I guess you just got the one right now who's probably all three, if I had to guess.

She's really smart.

The thing about Jalen Todd is I spoke with him actually at Media Day, and I talked to him a little bit about what you were highlighting there, which is the leadership role, because he is very much sort of that, like put the head down and just kind of go about his work type guy.

Like that's really what he's been.

How many of those games does KU have to win if they want to make it to a bowl game?

obviously.

Quarterback and probably offensive line, I think you would say maybe, but you've still got some powerful experience there.

You just maybe don't have the level of talent when you think about losing a guy like Bryce Foster.

Kobe Baines is obviously a long-term starter for you, and then Enrico Cruz is in the NFL draft.

So quarterback and offensive line might be the two positions where you don't have the same level of either talent or experience that you had last year.

But, I mean, running back, you feel like you're just as talented probably as last year, certainly deeper, certainly have more depth of talent.

Wide receiver, you probably feel like you're a little bit more talented there this year with more experience.

But if KU can get an NFL guy.

Yeah, well, rough, rough, really like, you know, 12 hours going back to last night.

You know, the game gets delayed due to weather.

Then there's a bunch of back and forth about getting the game started.

Eventually, they do start it last night at 7.30, knowing that there was going to be another wave of storms coming through.

And sure enough, that wave came through when KU was already down 8-1, which at the time, you thought, okay, well, maybe this is kind of a blessing in disguise for KU.
