it's insane isn't it it's one of those things like you say on the day they're just passing this thing around oh that'd be cool to get everyone to sign and then years later like holy hell someone gets to own this piece at some

point we're lucky this year with guitars we always tend to pick we always tend to get lucky with one or two high profile ones.

this music is right up my alley.

I mean, I grew up being a big prog fan and I know this album is produced by Nick Mason and just sonically, it's very kind of familiar sounding to me, but I had no familiar with this album or with Robert Wyatt.

So my question is, to kick this off is how did you become familiar with it?

Well, I mean, I could literally answer this question and you wouldn't have to ask me another one for the entire time.

And I love the keyboard sounds on this album.

Incredible.

And what, I mean, Nick Mason, I think he's a genius, Nick Mason, for one reason.

Why? bizarrely bizarrely having said all this pink floyd is perhaps my least favorite of the big english prog bands i'm a very big yes fan i love genesis but pink floyd Somehow, I think maybe the things I didn't like about it when I was younger, maybe I'd like them more now.

The song is written about Pink Floyd member Syd Barrett, who left in 1968 following mental health problems.

Drummer Nick Mason talks about recording it, and it's an epic track, right? So whenever I think of these epic songs, I think of the basic tracking.

And what is basic tracking? Basic tracking is the first pass that you do with the band to lay down the blueprint for what the song is, right? Before you add the overdubs.

Before you add vocals or solos or all these other things.

And then they go back and start adding.

We originally did the backing track over the course of several days, but we came to the conclusion that it just wasn't good enough.

Um, one of the other Hawk- Hawthorn podcasts, uh, the Hawk Talk Podcast, which I know we've all listened to and enjoyed at various times.

Nick Wa- uh, Nick Mason announced that, uh, he's stepping away at the end of the season.

So I know it, uh, wasn't the greatest thing for Nick when we started our journey on Hawks Insiders and, uh, sort of felt that, uh, given he was the first and the, uh, the first, that I think it probably felt we've, uh, we cut his lunch a bit.

But I do wanna shout out to both to Nick and to Tiz that, that they were, were among the first to do these fan podcasts.
