Nick Daicos

So, you know, before, I guess you'd say, the rules changed in the game, a couple of years ago McGinnis was probably the premium tagger in the AFL.

He was one of the only players who was able to quell, uh, Daicos.

He consistently beat him, you know, a couple of years, uh, in a row.

Uh, but then for whatever reason, Sam Mitchell played him as a high half forward.

It was, and that's where it all started to go wrong for Toby McLean that day.

Uh, McGinnis arguably best known for his efforts in successfully tagging Collingwood's Nick Daicos late in 2023, but has struggled to consistently feature since.

In the last four years, he's played 13, 13, 13, and six games for, for the Hawks.

And I'm sure in the men's if, I don't know, Kane Corn says something about Nick Daicos, Daicos is gonna go, "Cool, I've noticed that.

I'm gonna get better now." 'Cause he's obviously the best player in the league, so is that gonna make our W players better?

So list wise, I've had a look at the lists as they stand right now.

Yes, we've still got the draft to come, but the kids aren't gonna make that much of a difference, you wouldn't think, in the first part of the year until we quite a, you know, while into the year, and then we work out, well, who's got the next Nick Daicos or who's got the next Will Ashcroft.

But in terms of the list we've got now, I do believe that Hawthorn is rightly the premiership favorite as the number one list.

They've kept Zach Merrett and Ben King.

Okay.

So Nick Daicos just turns 24 in January, so I mean, as much as we talk about, as much as we talk...

And I, I'm not disagreeing with you entirely, 'cause a lot of these high draft picks haven't, or they haven't had a huge amount of them.

But the kids they have played aren't quite superstars.

Hmm.

But Nick Daicos is the best player in the game and he'll be 24 [laughs] come round one next year.

Yeah.

So I, I think this conversation needs to be tempered just a little bit because Nick Daicos is so young.

So-

Get the ball to him, and this guy gets it better than nearly anyone else in the competition from dead ball situations.

So what will happen there? So these selections use a point system with discounts in certain circumstances rather than always requiring the club's next pick.

So use, who's Nick Daicos as an example.

So he's probably a pick one-

He actually went pick five.

Five, was it? So he went pick five, and what happened there was the person who had pick one might've said Nick Daicos, but then they can go to Collingwood where Nick Daicos' father played and say, "Hey, there's been a nomination on Nick Daicos, so you want to get a five.

It's going to cost you this many points to take him, but we'll hold him until you get your pick at pick five." So they then have to use X amount of points to trade or to use to get him at pick one.
