I became a hygienist and I told my mom the day I graduated that I was going to be a hygienist for 20 years and then I was going to go back to school and be an educator.

And my mom's like, calm down, get a job first, right? So 20 years and three days later, I got my job at NHTI as a professor.

And I'm just like, OK, I'm all done making plans.

The rest of my life is just going to unfold and it's going to be a surprise because for some reason that actually worked exactly how I thought it was going to, which is strange, you know.
