Next Generation Science Standards

When I said it was huge, I was not kidding.

In the US, supported resources can connect to frameworks like the Common Core and NGSS.

And yes, even our Texas TEKS down here.

So you can find lessons and classroom activities, and you know we've looked for those for years.

After that, a student, their freshman or sophomore year, would take ag biology.

So ag biology is a cool class because it's aligned with both the NGSS or next generation science standards and also with the agriculture, food, and natural resources standards for the state.

So we're it's fast paced class because we're learning about a lot of different things, but it's really nice because both our ag bio and ag chemistry classes are, you know, in the eyes of the state, it's the same as taking a regular biology or regular chemistry.

Yeah, you're meeting the

same requirements.

We're hitting the same NGSS standards.

The only difference is that we're going to hit all of those standards and contextualize them within agriculture.

field studies, and we also provide in-school pre- and post-visit activities or labs to really help them enhance classroom learning opportunities in a more direct way.

Our programs are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards.

That program is tied into New Paltz Central School District Science Initiative, and it's a part of the experience that all students get K-6.

Access matters.

when they're on land.

I have hope for the future.

I do work on aligning programs to next generation science standards.

Although right now some of that feels aspirational, I do like a lot of the work that is going on behind the scenes of next generation science standards.

And also some,

there's, Long story, in the education world, there had been a shift to a different kind of science standards called the Next Generation Science Standards.

Pretty clever name.

And that ended up having to measure not just sort of science facts, but also the cross-cutting skills and things like that.

So I won't belabor that here.

I will say this is a much longer than normal podcast because we got into the weeds and I thought had some really good and I thought fun conversation as we unpacked his critique of the next generation science standards.

He has five major points and some of that certainly revolves around inquiry and some things I really agreed with and some things I disagreed with.

And we found some interesting conversation to be had about that and went a little bit longer than what I anticipated.
