When we went down to CLF years ago and we were catching black bream.

at Newlyn and then I remember afterwards even years of people would come up to us and go we didn't even know Bream existed in that spot right and we were like neither did we we just turned up and found them it's the opposite it's the other way around so we've seen both sides now and to see it from this side from the outside looking in as we are today really we were the outsiders we were just making lists really um playing with our paper spreadsheet it's fascinating it is fascinating anyway so should we you've already said we had 17 individual species but obviously but but no no mackerel no garfish so a few of the pelagics didn't didn't yeah there's more together yeah

yeah like so we're talking that the port you know for a one day event And undoubtedly this will grow, I think, given the nice words that we both heard towards the end.

I think word will get around that it's worth attending.

Oh, I was thinking that this morning.

I was like, "Right.

They're choosing to be in the lobster pot, which might not be a good strategy because the fishing industry, although it has had fewer crabs, it hasn't all been bad news, as our producer Beth Saggar-Fenton found out at Cornwall's busiest harbor.

[wind blows] We're, um, here in Newlyn Harbor.

Um, just in front of us there is the, is the fish market.

Boys just washing down after a quite busy market this morning.

Octopus, three or four ton of octopus.

Um, we've had, uh, six bluefin tuna now the season's just started, as well as some dover soles, monkfish, and, and mackerel.

So yeah, lovely sunny day in Newlyn, and, uh, the work is done for the week almost.

They were all working harbors, and I feel like Newlyn, which is next to Penzance, which is still a working harbor, like that's kind of...

That's the only-- it's really the only place that's still has people everyday living.

I would just try and get in as many places along the coast as possible.

I'd go through Newlyn to Mousehole, which is, like, beautiful fishing village.

Mm-hmm.

... that just complicates everything.

So obviously all of your films have Cornwall as its center, and that's where you grew up in, in Newlyn.

Well, I grew up in North Cornwall.

Oh, in North Cornwall?

Yeah, but my family, uh, are all Newlyn or St Ives.

Newlyn on my dad's side and St Ives on my mum's side.
