Even after victory at Yorktown, when American- Military victory is assured.

There's the Newburgh Conspiracy, where officers want to march on the civilian government because they haven't been paid.

Washington defuses it.

Then the Treaty of Paris happens in September of 1783, and then December of that year, Washington resigns his commission and goes home and celebrates Christmas at Mount Vernon.
