I'm Michael Synette.

I'm a medical education and learning specialist with NYIT Com at Arkansas State University, and I'm the host.

So today, I'm really excited about a conversation with these three med school students, and we're gonna talk about thriving in med school and what you can do to make that happen.

So let's go ahead and get some introductions out of the way.

Anybody else, something surprised you?

I, I think what I would say is there's, like, this stigma in medical school, like you have to be the best amongst your peers and, like, amongst everybody.

And it's, at least here, like, at NYIT COM, I, I've never felt that.

Like, I feel like every single person I see wants me to, like, succeed, and, like, succeed at a high level.

My name is Myra Akbar.

I'm a student at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, and I'll be your host today.

A newborn has intracranial calcifications.

Is it toxoplasmosis or CMV? What if I tell you the baby also has hydrocephalus? What if instead the baby has microcephaly and hearing loss? Congenital infections can feel like a giant list of random associations, and a lot of them overlap.

I'm Casey Pierce, and I'm with NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University.

We're a medical school that operates on A-State's Jonesboro campus in partnership with Arkansas State University, and the purpose of this podcast is just to cover medical school-related topics, topics about being a physician, topics about preparing to become a physician, and the journey to get there and all of that in-depth.

As we've discussed several times, the medical school curriculum is mostly the same for every student.

They're NYIT COM students, but we say that they have dual citizenship.

So it's a very unique setting.

Like for example, UAMS in Little Rock is in a pretty urban part of the state.

So, uh, i- in their own right, a pretty significant family.

So she bought into that mission, vision, idea.

Um, NYIT and Arkansas State University formed a partnership, and in 2016, two year, uh, 10 years ago this fall, NYIT COM at Arkansas State University was founded through that private-public partnership.

So all of our leadership, our dean, our associate dean, uh, me, our director of academic affairs, our director of clinical medicine, we're all from Arkansas.

Um, most of our leadership team is, and we are committed to, uh, improving access to healthcare, improving the physician workforce, improving health outcomes, health education, all of those things in Arkansas.
