New X-Men

I was living and breathing the X-Men, and there was a brand new X-Men team debuting.

Yeah.

And they were younger.

X-Force, and I think adjectiveless X-Men.

Whereas Lobdell is basically-- He, he gets a hold of Uncanny X-Men, and I, and I believe he stays until basically-- It's not until Grant Morrison does n- um-

...

Actually, Jean Grey was the one that went Dark Phoenix and died before Madeline Pryor first appeared.

Now we're talking X-Men.

It wouldn't be until after Cyclops leaves her and their son upon learning that Jean was still alive in a cocoon at the bottom of Jamaica Bay that Maddie would be corrupted in a dream by the limbo demon Sim and later strike a deal with another demon, Nastrith, to become the Goblin Queen, no relation to Spider-Man villains, and try to bring hell to Earth.

It's all so simple, really.

Not great.

But consider what Maddie does to get back at him.

She continues to hang out with the X-Men, and she purposefully hides the truth from them about the fact that Scott and Jean and the original five X-Men are X-Factor.

She makes a deal, multiple deals, with demons for the power to mess things up.

will say like you know for all the love that the 90s gets in this in this series season two we gave a lot of love to the 2000s also because grant morrison and joss whedon are all over this season which is worth mentioning I mean the new X-Men costumes pop up right the hell out of nowhere halfway through the season and stay a lot longer than I expected them to and we get a whole episode dedicated to danger which is a Joss Whedon story so

there's

also a decent amount of love for, like, a lot of 2000s characters.

A lot of the kids that got rescued from X-Factor that show up in the school in that Danger episode were straight out of Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men.

And a little bit of, like, Peter Milligan when he was doing X-Force.

Dupe is an X-Force character from that era.

I will say one tiny thing.

By the way, Scott Summers has such a great, epic story in the comic books.

If you start at the 12 when he gets possessed, you go into New X-Men, where he was second-guessing himself.

He was a Boy Scout who always took orders from Xavier, never questioned everything, and now he's questioning it, going to leading the team with Emma in astonishing, to bringing the mutants back from the brink of extinction, going up against the Avengers, and then becoming a revolutionist.

Cyclops has a great storyline in the comics, so please lean into that.

I- little things that, like, no one really thought about, you know, when making the Cuckoos mini clones.

But yes, eventually I would love to see the Cuckoos there as protégés.

By the way, when you read the introduction of the Cuckoos and Emma in Grant Morrison's New X-Men, Morrison wrote Emma as Miss Jean Brodie.

The book, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, about a teacher who has these mentees that eventually assassinate her, y- s- spiritually assassinate her by getting her fired.

'Cause there was so much new stuff that was happening at the time when I was a kid.

There was the New X-Men that was going on.

There was the New Titans.

There was all of that stuff, and it just seemed so fresh when you've got Cyborg or Colossus and Wolverine and Raven and Starfire.

Okay, okay.

But for our purposes, he is the guy at the helm of Uncanny right at the same time that Grant Morrison is doing his thing over on New X-Men.

So people don't

think about Joe Casey's Uncanny in the same way as they think about Morrison's New X-Men.

They especially don't think about it the same way that they think of Chuck the Truck's follow-up to Joe Casey's Uncanny X-Men.

And I think that's a bit of a shame because Casey's uncanny as a whole is a very interesting failure.

something, like, new, refreshed, revitalized.

And so, really, like, the bigger thing for me was them announcing the new X-Men cast.

Yeah.

Super pumped.

He did a lot of work in Europe, including with heavy metal.

And probably best known in the United States, at least, infamously so, for doing fill-in work on issues of New X-Men

that the fans hated.

Yeah, that was a notorious rush job.

Texture, right? Like that is what.

Igor Kordy can do for you.

And I think that's what, you know, threw people off when he was doing those new X-Men issues that he apparently, you know, knocked off in like a weekend or, or whatever it was that he actually can do there.

So we, we, we get the whole thing, uh, unfurled and then the shield helicarrier turns out to be poised above the base and, And we got like the feds are after them, right? That is, that is the thing here.

You know what I mean? But those like 90s style of dramas that aren't, they don't have a lot of high concept stuff.

You know, this isn't Alan Moore's Swamp Thing or Grant Morrison's New X-Men.

It's not a high concept book, but it's just a gripping page turning story.

And you just have fun with it.
