And so my first few hours of that day was spent trying to figure out how to get into a city that was shut tight, because they really wanted to make sure the routes were open for emergency service providers.

So after a couple of shots at trying to get in George Washington Bridge first, and then on the northern suburb side, Westchester County, the Tappan Zee Bridge, I devised a plan with my wife to meet me at a local shopping mall.

went as far to the northern suburbs in new york in the bronx as i could get before the roads were closed and i parked the car and i rode my bike into manhattan and was reporting along the way on the abc anchored coverage of the things that i was seeing at a distance still 10 miles away from the city but on a day like that you could see the smoke you could feel it and so i was reporting on all of the things that were happening at a distance so i remember vividly the sound of fighter jets flying over the Hudson River when I was up in Columbia Heights in northern Manhattan and looking up and saying, wow, you know, my country is at war.

There are fighter jets, fighter jets protecting our city, but feeling at first shocked and then feeling very good that there was some protection for us.

The Lincoln, the Holland Tunnels, the George Washington Bridge, the Verrazano Narrows Bridge are shut down in both directions.

The Tappan Zee Bridge is open both ways.

Traffic is moving well across the span from either side right now.

We also have the Triborough Bridge, Queensbound Lake, open.
