A $1 million reward has been announced for information leading to a conviction or the recovery of Gus Lamont's remains ahead of the anniversary of the four-year-old's disappearance.

There was nobody in attendance.

I've since seen, it looks like an RFS truck with sirens going, heading north.

But it was right on the edge of the road and it was in two separate areas where it was on fire.

The official start of bushfire danger season isn't until October.

But this weekend, the Rural Fire Service is certainly out and about, urging us to start taking some precautions around our house, particularly if you live in a bushy area.

I'm down in the south.

We live in an area that's unfortunately we've seen streets over the years go up in flames.

It is officially the get ready weekend.

And, for instance, if you're not sure how to handle the conditions around your house, if you're not sure how you should prepare your house, if you go into your local rural fire service station this weekend, they'll have people on hand, some volunteers who will actually be able to help you out and give you some advice.

The RFS Commissioner, Trent Curtin, says as well as people who are living near the bush, you can live a few kilometres away and because of ember attack, you could find yourself in danger.

People can clean up around their properties.

And out of 9-11, I come back to many years ago covering the bushfires and they were in the Blue Mountains.

we would talk to people and the Rural Fire Service would ring us and say, that person you spoke to, where were they? Because we need to know this.

Now, we've come a lot further now in the technology.

But it's a great indication of how the ABC is completely unique when it comes to how it reports stories, not because of the calibre of the people and the producers and the presenters, but but because of the audience themselves who will jump in and give you information that they feel everyone needs to know.
