I hate it.

New Romantics.

Ffff.

Retro trainers are back.

Punk, as we know it, didn't really last a long time in terms of the sonics of it.

It soon became New Wave and New Romantic and everything else that followed it.

But the feelings that I got from punk, you know, the mindset, the DIY ethic...

That stayed with me for years.

And all these people in London, they all kind of know each other, you know, if you're on a certain standard.

Gary Camp from, it was a Blitzkrieg, guy he actually played with my band the rich kids he stood in for the guitar Steve knew he passed away and maybe my band of rich kids was like a bridgehead between punk and the whole New Orleans I think because Rusty and Mijood did a side project with a guy called Steve Strange which became Visage and it kind of took off kind of broke the band up really but um there you go what will be will be

And to your point, Jasper, I think the new romantic scene is different.

Um, and I, I write and observe about that, particularly how given, you know, Rock's back pages, how the face starts out as a rock magazine, and within about eight issues, six issues even, they, they realize we're based in Carnaby Street.

Yes.

That's a continuation of the late '70s, but it was still very, very much there in the early '80s.

Uh, so what I'm talking about is all the stuff that looks fantastic in the photo books now, the coffee table books of 15-year-old punks with mohawks and skinheads with short crops, and mod revivalists, and rude boys and girls, and then new romantics and psycho billies.

But the reality was everybody was punching each other all the time, and it was a very, very, very violent time.

And at the same time, you had so many other kind of youth cultural movements that were vying for space.

You got New Romantics, and you got the second wave of punk, and you still got disco and so on.

Ska and so on was taking off.

All this stuff was absorbing a great deal of energy and record buyers' money, and yet still this outlier, Bauhaus, coming from the left field, they get a number three.

I was styled.

I remember watching him thinking, and I was jealous of a lot of, you know, when New Romance was ending, I was really, really jealous of Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet.

They're all good looking guys.

And everyone fancied, every girl in my school fancied John Taylor and fancied Nick Rhodes.

And it was a really creative time and a really creative club.

It was just...

At the end of New Romanticism, I was 15.

It was like we were going there.

I met Lee Bowery.

I still have a couple.

It was the time of Bowie, New Romantics and Eurythmics, so we wore them with style.
