that somewhere in let's say the the 1960s um this coincides a lot with the sds students for democratic society 1968 but there's this particular period of capitalism where the growth rates are pretty big the workers don't necessarily have revolutionary consciousness and so the idea among the socialist left is that we should retreat into the institution and you can kind of safeguard these ideas until they're relevant for the right revolutionary conditions in the future That has also kind of had the effect of reorienting intellectual socialism towards the like upward professional, the career mobility of those academics.

So it's this new age of intellectual radicalism.
