New Guardians

One is Lantern adjacent, both from the Year of Our Lord, 1988.

And we're going to start with The New Guardians, number one, written by Steve Englehart and illustrated by Joe Stanton.

Now, this is a book that spins directly out of Millennium, which we sort of reread for this.

Two of us reread it, I should say, for this project.

And.

Millennium is a very weird event, but it's an event that feels very prescient, or not very prescient, very sort of of this moment because so much of what's happening in the DC Studios realm feels Millennium-coded.

But New Guardians is a wild book.

Before we talk about the quality here, Vince, can you just give a very brief rundown of just how this book came to be?

Lantern?I've read a number of the, the series.

Like, I remember for a while there I was reading the main continuity, and then New Guardians, as well as I even was reading Red Lanterns at one point.

Yeah.

Um, and then I was reading-

Other advertisements of the issue include Batman the Cult, The New Guardians.

You remember them, Matt?

I do remember The New Guardians.

And Grant Morrison's Animal Man.

This is right around when they were doing the new universe from Marvel, weren't they? Right around 87, 88? Right around that time, yeah.

I think that's when the new guardians, I mean, that's, I mean, new guardians is DC, but like, that's, they had their own kind of like take on that.

I think in new universe.

Until the next crisis, which is a shame.

Maybe Harbinger was in a group called the New Guardians.
