New England's Dark Day

Leaving aside that the actual trend in North American wildfires is down, and that two data points is not a trend, the key thing is that wildfire smoke is not and never was a freak occurrence, and it didn't happen once in the 1780s.

To be fair, the author knows enough to reference New England's dark day, that's May 19th, 1780, when people needed candles at noon due to a mix of fog, clouds, and, yes, smoke from forest fires.

But it wasn't a freak.

It wasn't a one-off.

Where the fire from, like, 1780 burned.

So they actually found the actual location of the fire that caused the Dark Day, which I found one of the more, like, that's kind of fascinating to me because, like...

That's pretty impressive, yeah.

It really is.
