This was neuraxial anesthesia compared to general, and as you would expect, neuro- neuraxial anesthesia, regional anesthesia, did not increase postpartum depression.

But general anesthesia was consistently associated, again, with higher severe postpartum depression scores in the immediate postpartum interval.

This was published in Neuropsychiatric Disease Treatment April of 2026, and the title was "Influence of Neuraxial Anesthesia Technique During Vaginal and Cesarean Delivery and Association With Postpartum Depression: A Narrative Review of the Literature." So again, at the start of 2026, that was a meta-analysis.
