You've got a full Ethernet packet.

And then if you go to even MLChem, the 1024, the actual math that goes in there, when you only have a 1,500-byte payload for Layer 3 inside your Ethernet frames, you're going to need to do two Ethernet frames.

Yeah.

That takes time,

Just so you can kind of get into your mind, oh, those are separate technologies that were just sort of cramming into the same power supply.

That's really all Layer 3 Switch is, is multiple devices that were cramming in there.

It's like saying that a router is a Layer 3 firewall because there might be ACL functionality inside of it.

So you could play around with these terms all day.

Using terms the wrong way and describing devices with them, I think, tend to create more confusion.

So we, especially in my courses, say that a switch is a device that operates at OSI Layer 2 that communicates by forwarding devices based on a destination MAC address.

A router is a Layer 3 device, and that is a device that forwards traffic based on the destination IP address.

So there's where the difference is.
