Well, actually, I do wanna briefly touch on that and see if you heard anything, so I guess now's a good time, 'cause I don't really wanna come back to Nester Cortes.

So anything there?

Um, he's pitching tonight, uh, in the playoffs for Clearwater.

But two guys that might, uh, we've talked about Andrew Painter kinda shifting, whether he piggybacks with Nola come playoff time.

And the other question, Corey, 'cause the bullpen is so desperate, is Nestor Cortes, a soft-throwing kinda guy, have any shot of helping out in any situation? Because it's a low bar in that bullpen right now.

José Alvarado gave you a nice appearance Saturday night.

Um, but, like, you need anything and everything you can get in that bullpen right now.

Uh, what do you think, you know, in these final two weeks? Does anybody else kinda look like a guy for the job?

I don't, I don't really think so, honestly, 'cause Nor- Nestor Cortes strikes me as, like, a break glass in case of emergency option and as both a starter and reliever.

Yeah.

Um, as, like, maybe if every other left-handed specialist falters or gets hurt, or you have more than one injury in the rotation, you look at him as an option.

What were some, uh, pieces that stood out for you?

One that got my attention was the anti-tunneling talk from Matthew Reedy, and it's not because it unlocks this new thing that a bunch of guys can and should do, but it offered up an explanation for a few outliers, like Nestor Cortes and Tyler Anderson in recent years.

Guys you're just like, "How are you getting these results?" Right? Just, just having this really unusual, compared to everyone else, unusual a- approach to pitching.

'Cause we, we're always talking about outliers, LODOM, model spelled backwards incorrectly, and trying to say, like, "Why is this guy so good when these models generally think he's not?"

He could've been fired after the ALCS in '22 when they did absolutely nothing against the Astros.

He could've been fired on the spot, and would have been fired on the spot if I were the owner, after he put Nestor Cortes into game one of the 2024 World Series.

This man has been walking a tightrope for a long time, and finally it looks like he's shaking a bit, which, okay, it's about time, you know? And I love how it's the reasoning is this could be another year where they don't make the World Series, and it's like, okay, but there are other reasons why he should've been fired.

There are also plenty of reasons why he shouldn't have been hired in the first place.

I saw a lot of people mad at Dave Dombrowski.

I would think about putting him on the IL.

You sign Nestor Cortes for a reason.

With Painter and Nola pitching better lately, maybe you can, you can bridge that gap for a little while, uh, 'cause nothing matters if Zach Wheeler's not Zach Wheeler for the playoffs.

I mean, he's not gonna wanna go on the IL-

You don't really have many solutions.

Nestor Cortes has not thrown yet as a member of the Phillies, and he's down in the minors.

If he throws and looks good, sure, you could bring him up.

That's probably not gonna be for another week or two.

You also have a look at potential September call-ups.

Could it be two pitchers? I don't really think you need any other position players to come up, so I would imagine that the two players that you bring up are pitchers.

Maybe it's an Alan Rangel, maybe it's a Nestor Cortes, depending on how he throws down there.
