However, Neil Welch, the special agent in charge of the Detroit FBI office, said federal charges of interstate transport of stolen property would be lodged against some of the five suspects already in custody in New York City.

Welch said the jewelry was recovered downtown, but withheld most of the details about the discovery.

The FBI acted on a tip they had received and noted that Samuel Nalo had previously lived in Detroit, which provided a link between this city and the heist.
